I didn't feel anything with DD. Felt pressure with DS but thought it was pain so they gave me a booster on my epidural and DS was born 30min later.

LOL @ 10cm narcolepsy! (I have narcolepsy, so I know exactly what you meant)

I had an epidural with DD, but I didn't feel any urge to push. They just told me to do push after laboring down, and she was out in 2 pushes.

@Maysprout: My nurse and doctor were really bored at the end during my naps ;) hehe
My doula did tell me that it was pretty uncommon (in her experience) so just think we're special! :)

@cmomma17: I'm feeling like less of a mutant now. I'd never heard of contractions spacing out once you're complete or falling asleep, good to know I'm not alone. I think I was making the nurse nervous, though she didn't really say anything direct just a few things to the Dr, I really liked the Dr I had though, he was super laid back and just took everything in stride without making me nervous and just reassured her and me that baby was fine.

@Maysprout: I definitely felt the urge to push, but I fell asleep between contractions at the end too! My contractions ended up being 7-8 minutes apart at 9cm and beyond.

@Foodnerd81: Glad I found someone else that zonked out. It was crazy, it was so much work to try to stay awake even with contractions waking me up in lots of pain every few minutes, as soon as they were done I was back asleep. Once they said it was time to try to push though I guess I got adrenaline or something because I didn't have trouble staying awake then.

I had an epidural and did not feel the need to push. They told me I was 10cm after napping and I started pushing. They said I was a "good pusher" but nothing was really happening. I feel like I should have labored down a little longer instead of starting to push. After 5 hours of pushing I had my baby... The last hour or so I let the epidural wear off so I could feel everything an definitely got more of the sensation of wanting to push when I felt the contraction -- but not really an "urge"!

I hope when I have another baby I don't have to push for so long!

I had an epidural, but I still felt the urge to push toward the end. They told me don't push until they tell me so (only push when the bell curve is up), and several times I had to ask do I push now? I feel like I need to, and they said yes. Baby was out within an hour.

I didn't get an intense feeling of having to push, in fact, when it came time, I apparently didn't do it "right." I had to have the midwives place a finger on the point where I was supposed to push in order to get it right. I didn't have an epi, I have no idea what I was supposed to be feeling.

I had a really strange experience. I had been induced and was receiving the hormone drip. I didn't have an epidural so my contractions were what I can only describe as violent and they were coming one on top of another - it was quite frightening! But when I got to 10cm and they said I could push, everything seemed to stop. They told me to wait until the next contraction - and it didn't come for ages. I'm not sure whether they turned the drip down or what was happening but I felt no urge to push and my contractions were weak and spaced out. The midwife and the doctor were shouting "push" frantically at me and I kept saying "but I haven't got a contraction". Weird.

I had the epi and definitely felt the urge to push! Once I got to 10cm the midwife wanted me to wait up to an hour for baby to start to get into position by herself. I waited maybe 45mins before I had to push to get relief from needing to push! I felt every contraction and it wasn't pain that made it tough, just a lot of pressure.

I didn't feel it with #1 (epi), but definitely did with #2 (med free). The urge is what sent me to the hospital, even though it was only around just 4 hours of contractions. When I got there, the urge got worse and it sort of also felt like UTI pain where you think you need to go pee, and you try, but nothing comes out? When they checked me soon after, I was 9.5cm at that point.

Funny, I had been feeling the "urge to push" for about the last hour of labor, but when they finally told me, "ok, you can push", I was like, "what? you want me to push? NOW? ...a baby, whaaaat??" haha, the pressure was so great, I didn't think I could do it.

With my first LO I figured I didn't feel an urge because I had an epidural and I started pushing when they said I was at 10.

This time the epidural while it took the edge off was really only working on one side of my body and I still quite a bit of pain. When I was complete the Dr said he was a big fan of laboring down until there was an urge to push and I said 'sounds good'. Well, I never got the urge. I puked a couple times, then my contractions spaced out to about 5 min apart and I would fall asleep in between, then wake up in tons of pain and then I'd fall right back to sleep after the contraction was over. It was really weird I couldn't stay awake. After over 2 hours of laboring down the Dr came back in and checked me and said why don't you just go ahead and push and baby was born 10 min later. And I felt plenty while the baby was being born so it wasn't like that area was numb.

Anyone else not get an urge to push or have 10 cm narcolepsy?
