I only found out I had PCOS after 11 months of TTC without any success, and with the world's longest cycles (200, and 100 days). The first long cycle we attributed to coming off of BC, it wasn't until the second long cycle when we became suspicious. I was put on 2000mg metformin per day, and was pregnant on my first cycle on metformin, so I pretty much feel like it is a miracle drug. I am 15 weeks pregnant now, and before we TTC #2 I am going to try to drop a bunch of weight and stuff to make the journey easier.

Good to know Metformin works for some - it didn't help with my weight loss at all, and mine has been increased to 2000mg with Clomid. Gah!

I have PCOS. I actually was diagnosed recently (September). Hubby and I were married in Oct. We have only been trying for a couple months so far.

I was put on Metformin due to the insulin resistence that I have with the PCOS. It helped regulate my period right away. I hadn't been ovulating for a while, however I had my first positive OPK tonight! Unfortunately hubby is on a business trip (go figure, he only takes 4 business trips per year)!

I know we probably have a long road ahead of us, but the Metformin is really helping me to feel better in a lot of ways so I am trying to stay positive for now. It's definitely not easy. Metformin has also helped me lose weight too. I have been dieting and exercising for months and hadn't been able to lose more than a pound. Since I have started Metformin at the end of Sept. I have lost 12 lbs. So that is making me happy too :o)

Thanks for starting this thread. It's nice knowing I'm not alone!

I have PCOS. I was diagnosed about a year ago and started on supplements and metformin. I started dieting and exercising and lost about 20 lbs, but it didn't help my cycle. We started Clomid in July and just finished our third unsuccessful cycle. We're trying naturally this month before looking at other options. I know I need to get back on the healthy eating and exercise bandwagon, but TTC has been so stressful for me and I worked so hard for those first 5 months without seeing any improvement in my cycles. :( Wish I had a more positive story for you.

I've been a PCOS lady for nearly two years now, though I've known about it for a lot longer than that. TTC has been hard work so far {no dice, yet} - but we're finally working with an RE to increase progesterone. Clomid cycle starts next week, if all goes well.
I'm still working on the weight loss & have a long way to go.

I was diagnosed with PCOS 6 years ago. I had really irregular cycles and a lot of pain which turned out to be rupturing cysts. It stayed that way until about a year and a half ago I started really focusing on losing weight. I started running and eating whole/healthy foods and ended up losing a little over 50 pounds. At about 30 pounds down I started getting my period every month like clockwork and a few months after that I noticed signs of ovulation for the first time. 2 months after that we got married, decided to NTNT and I got pregnant the first try. Due to my PCOS though I've always had low progesterone and that contributed to me having a MC at around 7 weeks. We started TTC again the month after and conceived again after 2 more cycles. That pregnancy also ended in a MC really quickly just shy of 5 weeks in.

Right now I'm taking the cycle off so that my doctor can do more extensive testing. We're trying to figure out exactly what my hormones are doing so that she can have a baseline to determine treatment for next time. I'm on progesterone supplements already but that didn't do the trick these last 2 times. So for us the problem wasn't conceiving, it's been sustaining the pregnancy.

I'm really hopeful though that after this month of testing we'll be able to get a solid plan and get a sticky baby :)

Good luck!

SOOJI-I did zumba and that was a good workout plus eating right. Also, once you do get your cycle again, start chartng your ovulation and they say to do it every other day. Also, if you arent already, get on prenatal vitamins prior to trying.

thanks ladies!! it's so encouraging to read your stories.. i'm truly so happy for you all! i mean i know it's possible and i do believe it's possible, but i'm just worried about miscarriage and what not since they say our chances are increased w/ PCOS.

i have read that just losing 10% of your body weight will increase your chances of conceiving so im trying to use that as an encouragement to lose weight. i'm wondering if i want to go ahead and start on clomid or if i should start "charting" but like you said ANEWME i feel like it's so hard to chart when you're not ovulating to begin with. my last period was in july and well... how does that work then?

hopefully my appointment next week will make things a bit more "certain" :) thanks again ladies!

I was diagnosed with PCOS about 4 years ago. I tried Chlomid, i tried vitamins, i did all types of things and it didnt work. I became extremely depressed after trying 3 years and not getting pregnant. Well the doctor told me to start exercising, eating healthier, getting on a prenatal vitamin prior, etc. Well i started tracking my ovulation and would have intercouse every other day. Well after 1 month and dropping 15lbs i got pregnant. Well i didnt know i was pregnant because it wasnt unusual for me to miss my cycle for a couple months.

Dont let the diagnosis scare you. I thought after trying for so long that i would never have a child, i would sit and cry, become depressed and it got to the point where i would get jealous when i saw a friend or family member that was pregnant. I was never a jealous person and i found myself being like that, it was absolutely horrible.

Well after being 5 months pregnant i finally found out i was pregnant, which was a bit of a suprise, but the best suprise of my life.

Well i wish you luck, dont give up, keep trying and best wishes! :)

HI Sooji

I was diagnosed with PCOS a few years ago.

My TTC journey started about 4 years ago, when I changed OBs a month after I was married, I learned that I had a retroverted uterus. I knew that alone didn't have mean I would be infertile or have trouble conceiving so we still went ahead and put our TTC plans on hold.

A year after we were married, we embarked on the "not trying to prevent" plan with no success. About half a yr of that I finally went to another new OB that my sister recommended.

She diagnosed me with PCOS and the ultrasound of my ovaries helped confirm it. I really didn't know what all that meant but she assured me that plenty of women with PCOS go on to conceive naturally and successfully. It was in no ways a death sentence. She sent me home urging me to try again naturally for another 6 more months before going back to see her. Most drs won't even take you seriously until you've tried for at least one year without any success.

Through the next 6 months, I tried basal body temperature, peeing on fertility sticks. One thing about PCOS is that it makes it so hard to track your fertile period because our periods are all over the map. It was soo hard, in a 6 month period, I might have had my period 4 times. My cycle was definitely not a 28 day cycle.

I did my research and I knew I wanted to try a round of clomid. I went back to my OB after 6 months and I firmly told her that I wanted to try clomid and she okayed it. She gave me a prescription for 3 cycles. A lot of insurance doesn't cover it so I paid out of pocket for it. Luckly clomid is very affordable. I think I paid $75 for my first cycle. I got pregnant right after my first cycle. I still remember taking my pregnancy test that morning, half in disbelief when the the double line showed up immediately. I ran out and bought 3 more boxes and after the 3rd stick, I was finally convinced it wasn't a fluke.

My little girl is now 7 months! So yes, you absolutely can conceive with PCOS. Yes it might be more difficult, even impossible for some but you never know until you try. Don't let the diagnosis itself scare you.

Awhile later, I found out some of my other friends had also been diagnosed with PCOS and they were all able to conceive naturally.

will you share your TTC/pregnancy stories? what supplementary methods/medication were you put on or what worked for you?

i was diagnosed w/ PCOS in 2006 and was on birth control for about 2-3 years. i decided to come off BC after a while due to the mood swings (i had never cried so much in my life... haha) and not knowing the long term effects of BCP. i got married in 2009 and we've been NTNTC for almost two years now with no news... i told myself we should be fine once we were actually TTC but in the back of my head i couldn't shake this feeling that maybe something's wrong...

i know they say it's harder for ladies w/ PCOS to conceive, so i'm considering going ahead and TTC now in hopes that when it happens... well.. yay! :) i have an appointment next week with the doctor and well.. i just wanted to hear some of your stories if you'd be so kind to share :) i know there's been plenty of success stories amongst us PCOS ladies but i think the underlying fear that i may be infertile is scaring me from thinking i could be a mom in the future! :(
