@leanne82: Great update!! I've never had a cyst, and all the sudden got one as soon as I got pregnant. My RE said the cyst formed when my ovary released an egg, and that it's actually supporting the pregnancy in the first trimester. I've never heard that before!

@leanne82: Glad to hear you have a good update. I was just going to share that I had a cyst that they found during my last pregnancy on my ovary. It was 8-10cm and they monitored it most of the pregnancy (yah extra ultrasounds!). They said that it could go away on its own, but it never shrank so I had them remove it during my c-section. I'm all clear this pregnancy.

Hopefully yours will continue to shrink and not come back! Good luck!

Update: 11/3: I went back in for a baseline ultrasound after AF arrived this weekend. My cyst is shrinking! I was convinced I'd be having it drained this week so this is great news. I'll be on the pill for one more month to allow it to dissolve and then I'll start stims in december. That's the plan anyway. And if I've learned anything about ivf its that plans can change at the drop of a hat. Anyway, just wanted to give a happy update. I'm so relieved.

I didn't have infertility issues at all so it may be different, but I had a 7cm cyst (Fallopian) when I got pregnant & it was not an issue throughout my pregnancy. I didn't even have extra ultrasounds. It was removed during my C section - I'm not sure why, it seemed like just because they could. They would have left it alone had I delivered vaginally.

First - welcome! I've had several cysts over the years. I've had some removed because they were very painful (about the same size as yours but they were twisting parts and causing pain). After about 8 months of monitoring and not going away, the surgically removed them.

I have another cyst now and we have to discontinue treatment as well until it goes down :( super bummed since historically for me, it takes a while. Good luck!

I had a cyst when I was 19 and only found out because it ruptured. It was super painful. I don't remember how big it was.

I had a very large one (22cm I think) that I had surgically removed. It was laparoscopic surgery and not too painful. I did loose an ovary and tube though.

@leanne82: I have had multiple cysts (from 3-5 cm) and was also way freaked out at first!

The first one was discovered when I was pregnant and about to miscarry (though the doctor says they weren't related. the cyst wouldn't have caused the miscarriage)

I've been monitored since the beginning of the year, and for the first few months, they would grow and recede on their own. Every time I went back, there was a cyst on the other ovary but the original one was gone. So it seems to be a cyclical thing for me. My doctor thinks it's just a quirk that my body does.

Because I'm not in pain and because they haven't caused any further problems, he's chosen a wait and see approach. I haven't had an US since June or July and I go back next month.

I can't help but wonder if it's impacted us getting KU (we've been trying the whole time and nada). But as for them resolving themselves, for me they've always been gone in 4-6 weeks.

I had an ovarian cyst years ago. It was 6.5m I think. I only going out about it because it ruptured which was extraordinarily painful. So I don't know how long they take to reabsorb because mine didn't. Maybe someone else will chime in.

Good luck with your next round of IVF and welcome to HB!

Hi ladies! This is my first time posting, but I've been a lurker here for a while....

Quick background: I'm 32, hubby is 33. We have male factor infertility (low sperm count) and had our first IVF in June this year which ended in a chemical pregnancy.

We are about to start our 2nd IVF cycle, and at my baseline ultrasound they found a 4.5 cm cyst on my right ovary. I had no idea as I have no pain and never had a cyst before ever! I am assuming this is residual from being pumped full of hormones from our first IVF cycle.

I was so disheartened because this will inevitably push back our start date with stims as they don't want to risk it rupturing. My cyst however, is NOT giving off hormones and so they are just watching it and giving me birth control pills to help shrink it. They don't seem concerned and told me they see cysts like this all the time disappear on their own.

BUT

I am wondering how long it's going to actually take! It's pretty big and I'm terrified it's going to take a matter of 3 months or more. I mean, if I did get this cyst from our IVF in June, this cyst is nearly 4 months old now. I've read online most cysts go away with each period but apparently not for me!

Anyone have experience with a cyst like this going away on it's own? And if so, how big was yours and how long did it take to disappear?

Thank you!!
