@zippylef: We didn't use anything at 5 weeks pp. I could tell that things had stretched out a bit too. Funny thing though, I think sex became better post baby. :)
It'll get back to normal one day!!

@cvbee: We used condoms this time but I'm getting my Mirena inserted next week at my 6 week pp appointment. I mean... I could tell that things were stretched out. I didn't really have any pain, just a little uncomfortable. I think part of the strangeness could have been the condom situation though. We haven't used one in like 6 years. We'll see how things feel after I get my Mirena.

Thanks for the answers, ladies! God, I hope it doesn't take a year.

LO was 6 lbs. 8 oz. and 20 in. long. But I did have several 2nd degree tears. We didn't even attempt anything for 10 weeks. Honestly, it was uncomfortable for a couple months after that. Husband says everything feels the same to him, if not better ! lol. LO is now 2 years old and I still have an "ouch" moment here or there at certain angles, from a particularly nasty tear.

I think we waited a good 3 months before trying for the first time. It was kind of like starting for the first time all over again... it took quite a few (very painful) times before things got "good" again. And, for the record, things definitely shifted a bit because we had to learn all over again and certain things aren't favorites anymore...!

...will never be the same again??! Lol. Sort of. Sigh.
Serious answer - it takes a while and will maybe not ever feel the same. Not worse, just different. I had an episiotomy, pushed for 30 mins. Not sure if that makes a difference.

I waited til about 5 weeks pp to do anything and by that time my lady parts were all back to normal, though I didn't tear at all.

I never really noticed when the size was normal? We waited until 8 weeks with our first because she tore the crap out of me, but no stitches at all with #2 so we only waited a month (when my flow stopped)

I am 19 days PP and I feel like things 'might' be normal down there. DH says he can't even see the stitches or cut from my episiotomy.

But I'm going to hold onto the 'not til the doctor check' card, as I'm not interested in sex. (My doc check will be at 8 weeks). Maybe I won't wait that long...we'll see. DH wants to do 'other things' in the meantime. I feel a little conflicted about being sexual now....just not really interested, but I think for DH's sake I need to do 'something' by next week.

@zippylef: That's really great that your sex drive is there. I'm a bit curious about how things felt different when you went for it. Also, are you using contraception?

I'm 6 weeks pp and we haven't attempted it yet but my dr said it can take up to a year before things can get back to normal! I'm really hoping it doesn't take a whole year!

I think I snapped back pretty quickly. I laboured for 40 hours from water breaking to delivery (but only about 15 mins of actual pushing), LO was just under 7 lbs and I had just 2 minor grazes. We had sex for the first time at 3.5 wks pp (though we got interrupted by LO!). I'm 9 weeks out now and DH says he can't tell a difference. If anything, I think it might feel even better now!

I don't know, but there's some info on our may babies thread from some of the May turned April mamas--about the same amount of time postpartum as you are. :)

So, this is a bit TMI and embarrassing but... My LO is 4 1/2 weeks old. She was VERY big (10lb8oz, 22in and a 14+ in head) and delivered with forceps and an episotomy. Well, my sex drive came back really quickly and my lady parts have been feeling really good so we decided to go for it.

My question is, how long does it take before things go back to their normal size? I know it's going to take a while but how long did it take for you guys?
