@regberadaisy: did you already buy? lands end is 40% off today. I am going between the expedition parka you mentioned and the stormer 3-1. What draws me to the 3 in 1 is that he could wear the fleece in the car, and put the shell on once he's out of the carseat. But the parka, he'd have to wear something completely different. DH likes the parka better though. Sometimes they walk to daycare (half a mile), so I like the warmth of the parka.
(stormer 3 in 1: https://www.landsend.com/pp/StylePage-456920_A7.html and the parka: https://www.landsend.com/pp/StylePage-456888_A7.html )
What did you decide?

I had the adult version of this coat while in college and it definitely kept me warm on my 30 min walk to class in Michigan winters! It did a great job of blocking out the wind! I wasn't impressed with the hood in my version as well as the way the lining snapped in( it only connected at the neck and the sleeves so it would move around inside the jacket) but I think this has been fixed with the newer jackets.

@Mamaof2: I have gotten one from there before, they're just as good as the coats.

I bought DS a 3-1 Stormer last year - and love it! Super warm - he actually gets hot in it! We are in PA and also have pretty cold winters.

As for size, my kids are on the smaller end and I got him the little boys M (5/6) and there is some extra room. He is 7 and will wear it again this winter

I love Lands End, my whole family (all three of us, lol) wears their coats.

My son is currently using the Squall Parka. I bought it last year in the end of season clearance and we have zero complaints. I get 2 years out of each coat.

The year before we had the all weather parka, also a good coat.

How warm is this coat? The rating is warmest yet the temp range given is -15/25F. I'm not sure how accurate their temp rating is?
This will be the play in snow and walk around outside in nyc coat. We live upstate where winter is October to April and temps are almost always in the teens, so she needs something really warm!

Also, how do they fit? She's most in 4T tops and the Patagonia 4T was big enough to last 2 seasons. I'm looking for the same here. Looking at the little girls S(4). Thanks!

I really want this one for her: http://www.landsend.com/products/girls-expedition-parka/id_289932?sku_0=::VUK
But even with 25% off that's more than I want to spend on a coat! But the 3-1 might be nice to use the shell with the Patagonia on a daily basis for the car? Taking the shell off in the car.
