She has been learning a ton of new words and stringing them together for the past few weeks now. I want to say it started around 21.5 months and still going at 23 months.

I would say he's going through a big one right now at 23 months. He went from a few words/mostly non verbal communication to about 40-50 words in the last month, month & a half or so.

Roughly half of the words are in French. He seems to pick the easier word for him to say (for example he says avion instead of airplane, hat instead of chapeau) in either language.

I've noticed over the last week or so he's starting to string simple words together (ballon dans l'eau, for example). Super exciting stuff and finally!. I was getting a bit worried.

Around last Christmas (14m) I wouldn't have said with confidence DD said Mom or Dad, by 16m her words and talk was insane! It happened so quick and was incredible to hear her try all/any words! Such a fun time!

Ours was closer to age 2, maybe even slightly after, but she went from babble to stringing words together and identifying lots of things. She is starting to learn the ABCs and to count now as well and knows and can sing several songs and rhymes. She's 27 months.

We didnt really have the earlier explosion, but this is her MO with most large milestones so... meh. She's a crawler-to-runner kind of kid.

J was a late talker but had a word explosion at 22 months and a sentence explosion at 25 months - first 3 words together then 5 or 6 :)

He really started accumulating words around 18 months, sometimes a new one each day. But I'd say the real "explosion" is happening now (just turned 22 months). He's suddenly stringing words together and talking non-stop, almost overnight. It is SO fun to watch!

I think my LO has always been quite good with her talking but now, at 20 months, it's really taking off. It's so exciting, my favourite bit is her singing songs.

A went through this around 18 months and is again right now where she is putting 2-3 words together to make a short sentence. She will be 23 months soon.

Around 18 months. By 22 months he was speaking much more clearly and now, at almost 2, he's speaking in 3-5 word sentences. It's so amazing to watch it happen!

Around 18 months was when he really started saying several new words per day, making 2-3 word sentences and was really able to communicate in a way in which we could really understand him.

I can't remember exactly when ours was, but our daughter's language explosion (at least the one where she started picking up lots and lots of new words at an alarming pace) happened well before 2 years. For us I think it was probably around or just prior to 18 months. 2-word sentences arrived at 19 months, and by 2 years she was easily stringing together full sentences with mostly correct grammar. It's such an exciting time when they transition from clearly understanding what you say, to being able to articular their own wants and needs.

The week after he turned 18 months, I remember him picking up several new words a week and being consistent with saying them over and over, so not just repeating us. Then he had another explosion a few months later when he started saying 2-3 word sentences.

I was kind of skeptical that this would happen/the form it would take--but literally, almost over night and certainly over a matter of days, around 18.5/19 months, LO's language EXPLODED. He started stringing together 3 word sentences consistently, learning multiple new words a day, and repeating words much more clearly, with the whole sound (not dropping the last consonant sound anymore, which he did as well). It was really amazing!

The 'word explosion' typically comes just before/around age 2...but it sounds like that's what your LO is experiencing! And last consonants are often dropped - she's picking up so many new words, who has time to say them properly!

Exciting times!

So... when did your LO(s) experience a language explosion? Is there only one? What do you consider an explosion?

Right now DD (14 months) is saying roughly one new word a day, although she's missing the last consonant on many of them. It's just out of nowhere, even though she's always been a very verbal child, but IDK if it qualifies as a "language explosion". Just curious to hear others' experiences.
