It had lots of great reviews, and there's no way we can afford a $300+ pump, especially when I don't really know how breast feeding is going to go. I had a manual on hand at first, but rented the Symphony for awhile. Honestly, I don't like it. It is super loud and the suction has always seemed a bit weak to me, and it just feels a bit cheaply made. My sister in law gave it to me (she didn't like it either. But pumps are super individual, so you could have a completely different experience.
