@blackbird: wow 6 hours! That's a huge amount of time. No wonder it took u a long time to recover, hopefully I'm like your second procedure and have nothing much and recover quick so I can try ASAP.

@raintreebee: sorry didn't see your msg, and u know what I wholeheartledly agree with u. I'm shocked he went straight to the idea of doing a lap. I'm really really not keen on having the lap. I don't want it. But then words of that psychic in my head and the pains I get tell me to do it. I'm really in 2 minds. Last month it was extremely painful, to the point I thought my ovary was going to explode but this month nothing just a bit of cramps. Arghhhhhh idk whether to cancel again or just get it over and done with. That's my other fear that having the lap could damage me. I have been pregnant in the past which is why I feel that if I was able to fall pregnant before obv it's not really causing I fertility. This was when I was 27 though, and haven't tried since then to fall preg as been on bcp. I'm just concerned of the pain and that maybe it's become worse if I do have scar tissue or endo/cysts which is prob going to prevent pregnancy. Ughhhhh my head hurts.

@Emilia80: a couple of months for my first one. I was under for a good 6 hour operation. But it was everywhere. I had it so bad. My second one, I was recovered so fast! He didn't see much so he left my body alone. Back at work Monday and everything. Night and day.

@Emilia80: It does seem like BCP suppresses your AMH levels, but also AMH isn't the greatest measure of fertility. My RE has a different philosophy about FSH because he has different techniques...most REs consider 9-10 to be high because they don't know how to treat it but he considers maybe 20+ to be higher. But you have a good AFC which means you have a decent number of eggs. If you're still concerned I'd recommend seeing an RE instead of a gyn.

@spaniellove: could my afc differ and be higher if I wasn't on bcp?? Does bcp affect the afc?
What does your RE consider to be a high FSH??

@Emilia80: My RE specializes in high FSH patients and tends to ignore AMH because it's not an exact predictor of fertility. Your AFC (antral follicle count) is not bad and doesn't really indicate a dire situation - 13 antral follicles would mean you likely have a fair number of eggs left. Your FSH can really vary from cycle to cycle...given your age, it's not low but not alarming either. Hope this helps!

Maybe u can help me. While on bcp I had my amh tested (I know I know but gp said was fine) it was 6.8pmol/l my afc was 13
Then came off bcp and 1 month later had FSH tested on cd2 which was 8 and LH 5.2 gyno said I really need to start trying. I'm concerned about these results, are they that bad? I'm 34 I'll be 35 in June.

@Emilia80: You should definitely be going to a reproductive endocrinologist for this kind of thing if you're concerned about your fertility. A GP doesn't handle fertility and OB/GYNs usually don't have specialized knowledge about fertility either. At the point where you're having your AMH tested I'd definitely put that in the hands of an RE. You might also want to get an RE's opinion before having a lap. This might be helpful to you:

@Emilia80: I'm totally good now. I had all the tissue removed ten years ago and have stayed on an aggressive BCP regimen to stop all my periods. I have a 21 month old and am 6 months pregnant with my second. The endo never caused issues for me (I have an unrelated blood clotting issue that does). I still have pain when I do have a period and still take Vicodin for it. But they are far and few between

@spaniellove: u see this is what annoys me most both gp and gyno said that amh is usually consistent and wouldn't change the amh score. I thought this was strange, he made me do another amh but I've only been off bcp 1 month which I think is way too early to test again, another gp told me to wait minimum 6 months before I test again. So I've held off having that amh tested! I want to wait at least 6 months. Am really hoping my amh was only low bc of bcp.

@blackbird: yes see I'm starting to wonder that I may have scar tissue or endo due to the debilitating pain, and I know that bcp def subsides the pain. I forgot about the pain since being on bcp but now off it bang it's back.
How are u feeling now?? Have u or are u trying to fall pregnant?? Did the lap help with the pain?

Have you had an HSG? It's a special x-ray that can show issues in the uterus or your fallopian tubes. It would usually be done as part of a fertility work up.

Please let us know how it goes. I must admit I am a little concerned the OB did not seem to inform you about about how the lap would affect your TTC timeline. Also, it seems aggressive to just do diagnostic surgery unless (a) the pain is unbearable and the lap is hopefully going to resolve the pain or (b) you are hoping to clean up endo because you can't conceive. You don't know whether (b) is true or not so I am wondering if you are in enough pain to justify the lap (an honest question). Laps, especially around your ovaries, carry risks to your fertility. I should add that I've been diagnosed with endo but am one of the rare people where the signs of it can be seen on ultrasound (stuck ovaries, tilted uterus). That combined with symptoms and years of infertility has resulted in my RE being pretty confident in his diagnosis. But usually you can't see it on ultrasound.

@Emilia80: Did your doctor know you were just coming off BCP? AMH should never be tested if you're on BCP or have just recently come off because BCP lowers your AMH artificially.

@Emilia80: also birth control is the treatment so it makes sense yours got worse after you went off. My scans didn't show anything-you can't see endo on an ultrasound, and sometimes you can see cysts but not always...but I had three golf ball sized cysts on my left ovary. It was just obscured by everything else. I also had endo tissue all over my bowels that had to be separated. So my recovery was extensive. I had a lot of symptoms and had mentioned it to a dr who diagnosed it at 19

The only reason why I thought the psychic could be on to something is bc it's consistent with the pain I'm having. But I never thought I could have issues with it I always assumed it was just ovulation pain, but being on bcp didn't bring on the pains, since stopping bcp the pain has resurfaced. Last month it was so bad I thought my ovary was going to explode. Whereas this month no pain!
I guess I'm just taking precautions and having all my tests and ensuring everything is clear and no issues. Just want to be a step ahead bc of my age.
I know a lot of ppl mock psychics and don't believe anything the say and are skeptical which I was too BUT she was so accurate with everything else she said so I thought no harm in just doing all the necessary tests to make sure.

I couldn't walk or get out of bed bc of it so that's why he's doing the lap, he wants to check I have no endo or scar tissue and check my tubes !! He thinks my pain is not due to ovulation and possibly endo or cysts.

@Apex: that's the thing i haven't, I just came off bcp in decemeber. I had all my tests done like amh which was on the low side so thats when I decided to stop bcp and start ntnp. So I only really am actively trying this month.

When the psychic mentioned issues in my ovaries it made me panic and made me assume I would have issues falling pregnant. I can't stay atm I'm struggling to fall pregnant, bc we only just started. But I thought for her to pick up my ovaries made me worried of the pain associated there. She told me just to have all the tests and stay on top of it. She said even if they came back clear now that I should always keep testing (ultrasounds).... So that's what I'm doing Im being proactive and making sure everything is working.

@blackbird: really??? Tbh I don't even want to have it done. I get some pain in my right ovary only around ovulation time, sometimes extremely painful other times just a cramp here or there,I've had this pain though for 20 years. I believe it's due to ovulation pain but I know this sounds strange but I saw a respectable psychic who told me that something in my ovaries is preventing pregnancy. So hence the lap. I had Internal and external ultrasounds which showed everything was clear. Who knows! I think that psychic really got to me but I rather not chance anything.

Spoke with gyno said I would have a preg test the day before procedure if I'm preg we will cancel the test. He didn't say I can't try in mean time and that after it I can try ASAP. I guess gotta hope I recover easily.

Agree that laps and TTC don't mix. May I ask why you are having one?

Thanks so much ladies for the reply. See, I was never told not to ttc. I honestly had no idea, hence why I asked my qst. My doctor gyno just said I would need a preg test few days before procedure to make sure I'm not preg. Wow. Glad I asked. I'm all new to this, so, didn't have a clue. I will def not try ttc for this month, although we dtd last night and now I got my peak opk, I doubt I'm lucky enough to have gotten preg but I will not try until next month. Will call my gyno now and ask. Originally the lap was meant to be today but I had to postpone.
Sorry, I never intentionally would've tried getting preg had I known I wasn't meant to. I know that sounds so silly of me but I guess I just came off bcp, am 34 and have low amh so didn't wana waste any more time as I'm scared to death that my low amh could affect my chances of falling preg. I feel like a failure now.
