I had it done when I was teenager due to a large cyst that entangled the tube. Like others said, it was about a week recovery before I was back at school. I was able to get pregnant with just the one tube.

@time2sing: I agree - if it were me and it turned out I responded well to the Clomid, I'd want to try it a few times before jumping to IVF. IVF is totally overwhelming - I imagine it's even harder if you've already got kids at home to care for.

Well, happy birthday and best of luck! What better way to celebrate your big 4-0. Lol. :goodluck:

@MAGNOLIAMAMA42 That is wonderful. I hope that you have your second without having to do IVF as well. I am thinking of asking for a second clomid challenge before IVF. I will b e 40 tomorrow but I know I can get pregnant, so I am trying to be hopeful. I am praying very hard that I do. That is such a blessing that you got pregnant before having to get to IVF. Fertility is a hard road, and I feel IVF as it is good that we have that as an option, it can be VERY overwhelming.

@EDELWEISS Thank you! I know it is possible. They know that my last 2 pregnancies were from my right side as my left was not able to function. The only reason they see for the miscarriages is that tube! I am praying that we have our healthy baby soon after! I appreciate your encouragement!

@time2sing: Thanks, girl! We've had one rainbow and are hoping for another in the future. It is a rough rough ride, but for us it has been worth it.

That would be amazing if you didn't have to go through IVF! For my IUIs following the surgery, I did Clomid and then we made sure there were mature follicles on my right side before doing the Ovidrel injections and procedures. Both times, I responded well to the Clomid and had mature follicles on both ovaries. I know I am very blessed in this - we were one IUI away from moving to IVF.

I had laparoscopic surgery on my left tube due to an ectopic pregnancy. @magnoliamama42: gave some really good advice and I will second the walking. The physical pain was not nearly as bad as I expected, I was just slow on my feet and bloated. I had the surgery on a Tuesday, left the hospital on a wed and was back at work thurs and fri. Since you have a week off I think you'll do great. Good luck

@MAGNOLIAMAMA42 Thank you so much! That is really helpful. I am taking a week off after the surgery to make sure I get myself really in good condition.
I am doing a clomid challenge right after for my first cycle so hoping that it works and we do not have to go to IVF, we will see how it all goes.

Congrats on your beautiful rainbows!!

@time2sing: I also had my left Fallopian tube removed laproscopically. Everyone's bodies recover at different rates, but I'd say that I was feeling much better, pain-wise, about a week and a half after surgery.

My recovery was compounded by 2 liters of blood loss (ectopic, tube burst), so it took me awhile to get my energy back. You obviously won't have to deal with that.

For pain - the worst was the bloating. The incisions healed quickly and they used tape for them, so I didn't even have to worry about getting stitches removed. (Also, evidently blood is an irritant and your internal organs do not like touching it - who knew?! So I had abdominal pain from that, too.)

My best advice would be to get up and walking as soon as you can, and move often (it will get the gas out). But at the same time, take it easy! Don't overdo it too soon, or you'll be sore.

I was in the ICU on a Tuesday (just because of the blood loss) and was back at work a week and a half later on a Friday, but doing limited physical work (mostly just sitting at my desk).

I can't give you advice on cycles obviously, since mine involved a pregnancy. I ended up having to go get a methotrexate shot 4 weeks after surgery, since my body did not want to let go of the fact I wasn't pregnant anymore.

And I know this doesn't apply to you, since you're doing IVF, but if there's anyone else out there wondering - Seven months after surgery, we did IUIs. I got pregnant with twins on the second IUI (one embryo survived). And I got pregnant naturally when my daughter was around 9 months old (miscarried, but still - it means egg can still meet sperm!).

Best of luck with your IVF! I hope this is a turning point for you!

Oh it is very common and I have a fully working right tube, so they know that they can get me pregnant. Apparently mine is really bad. She did say when she is in there, if they can clear it they will.

I have no experience with this, but maybe you want to get a second opinion before surgery? Or do some Google research to make sure that removing it is the most common form of treatment?

Hello all! I am having laproscopic surgery on Wednesday to remove my left fallopian tube. I have had 2 miscarraige (one a MMC and the other a chemical pregnancy). I had an HSG done that showed that I had a Hydrosalpinx and my RE believes that is what has caused both of these embryos not to grow. The fluid is toxic. So they think the best bet since I am 40 tomorrow is to remove this and then move on to IVF.
I am looking to see if any of you have had this done and how was recovery?
How soon after did you have a regular cycle?

Thank you!
