DH and I are only 11 months apart, but my mom's husband is 3 years older than I am! I guess that puts them at about 17 years apart. They got married knowing they would not choose to have children- my mom is 51 and a grandma, and her husband has never wanted kids of his own.

6 years difference. It's not a problem now, but it was when we started dating (I was in high school). As far as having kids go, he's only 31 and we already have 2. I've never felt rushed to have kids though.

my DH is 11 years older than me, when we got married in '11 I was 22 and he was 33. he also had fears of being a grandpa dad, or being too old to do fun things with the kids when they are older, and we definitely took that into account when we started TTC on our honeymoon! I would have been happy to wait a year or 2 to start, but he was keen to start ASAP.

it doesn't bother us at all, we do find it pretty funny though when I'm talking about "yeah in 06 when I was at high school..." and he's all "I was out of college by then!"

DH and I are 4 years apart (he's older) so it's not a huge age gap. BUT my parents have a 20 year age gap between them and honestly it's never been a big deal! They got married when she was 28 and he was 48 and I was born 2 years later. My dad seems much younger than he is and everyone is always shocked when I tell them how old he is!

My husband is 16 years old than I am; I'll be 32 next month and he'll be 48 a month after that. We've been together for 7 years and married for 3 years and the age difference has had no impact on our relationship. This is the best, healthiest, closest relationship either of us has had, and we're inseparable!

It did have an impact on our timing for kids - I would have been happy and assumed I would wait until my mid-30's to even start to think about children. My husband was totally fine with waiting a couple more years, but realistically, I didn't want him to be in his 50's with a newborn. We're most likely one and done (which has nothing to do with our ages!), but if we do have another, he will be a 50 year old dad. Now that we're here, it wouldn't be that big of a deal.

We only have a 6 year gap (or 5.5, depending on the time of the year), but DH had (unfounded, in my opinion) fears about being a "grandpa-dad" and as such was very eager to get with the baby having. I probably could have waited a few more years, but it was important to him.

Side note: my BFF's parents were 25 years apart, and her dad was 62 when she was born. She has half-siblings old enough to be her parents.

DH is 11 years older than me and his age has a big impact. He was 41 when we got married and I wanted to have a baby immediately so that he graduated before he was 60...that was the cut-off in my mind. But we dealt with infertility for nearly 2 years and it was really hard. I felt much more pressure than I would have based on my age.

Nothing about our age difference matters in our day to day lives...I just worry about it 20 years from now.

My husband is 12 years older than me, and I definitely think it changed the way I looked at my biological clock. I am 25, and he's 37. I probably would have waited a little longer to have babies if I was married to someone closer in age, but that's not our reality. His dad was an older dad, and ended up passing away when my husband was 16. He never had a dad he could throw a football with, so he really wants to have kids soon. The sooner the better. He actually wanted to start when we first got married and I was 23, but I put my foot down.

We're both ready now. He probably still more so..but I think that's because all of his friends all have children and are pretty much finished, and mine haven't really started yet. He feels very behind, and I feel very ahead. He doesn't want to be a dad that's too old to get down and play with his kids...which I totally understand. Hopefully TTC won't take much longer.

11 years (in the non-typical direction)... just meant we had to hustle after getting married, since I was aging out. We had one child when I was 38 and the other when I was 40. I think almost 100% that we're done. My partner feels more done than I do.

DH and I are 5 years apart, which isn't a big gap, but because of how our families are structured, we get some pretty amusing culture clashes.

DH is the youngest with two siblings about 7 years older, and I'm the oldest with siblings 6 years younger. My SIL is 20 years older than my sister! Because our siblings grew up a generation apart, despite being only 5 years difference, DH and I have tons of 'before my time/after my time' conversations!

Nope! There's only a 1 1/2 year difference in mine and my DH's ages. He's older. I definitely don't judge age differences between couples. But for me, I like that DH and I are around the same life stage and grew up in the same time period. I feel like we have a lot in common. Kind of like growing up and learning together.

The only thing is that when we get together with everyone, I feels like we have to take care of LO and his dad! His dad is now in his 80s and is not as sharp as he use to be.

There is a 14 year age gap between me and my DH. I'm 28 and he's 41. We're expecting our first child in June, so he'll be 42 by then. Everyone says he has an young soul since he looks and acts much younger.

We don't really notice much unless we start to talk about pop culture from the 80s and 90s. My standard answer is to, "Do you remember...?!" is, "That was before my time..." I also told him he had to get rid of any clothes older than me

Ideally I would like to have our second child sometime when our first is between 3-4. I think this is fine for me since I'll be 31/32, but that will make DH 45/46.

Anyone else out there with a big gap? Does it bother you? Does it change the way you look at your biological clock/timing?
