Two weeks ago. DS hadn't napped for a week so he was sleep deprived, and I should have seen it coming. He went over to a neighbor's where he gets unlimited TV and cookies. I usually put my foot down about him not staying too long, but I was tired of setting limits all week and let him go. I figured it's Friday night so what's the harm? Bad idea. He wouldn't come home for dinner, I barely got him to come back at bedtime, and he was sobbing that he wants to live over there the whole time. He looked like he'd quite lost his mind... barely calmed him down enough for bed. I think I told the neighbor, a little old lady, that her cookies aren't doing him any favors and that she should stop asking him over if she's going to plop him on the couch. I haven't talked to her since, but I'm too traumatized and scared of a repeat performance to go over and apologize

Oh geez...... the last one ended up in me so frazzled that I needed a scotch because wine wasn't anywhere close to cutting it!

DD1 has some pretty epic tantrums, but she was just completely out of control during her last one. She was slamming and kicking doors, *screaming* at DH and me, throwing things, etc. Yeah.... I ended up going into her room and holding her in a bear hug (not rough, just enough to hold her still) and speaking quietly to her until she calmed down. She flipped the F out for 45 min, thrashing, screaming, crying hysterically before I finally got her to get in control.

... oh the joys of having a gifted child with very immature behavior control

Last night because I'm a horrible mom and wouldn't allow him to play outside while it was storming. He yelled "outside" for about 15 minutes and sobbed on the floor next to the door. This was our first big tantrum and I was fairly shocked.

Last night, because after walking home in a monsoon and being soaked to the bone I wanted to go upstairs and change clothes and I wouldn't let him climb up and down the stairs repeatedly. It was probably the worst I've seen so far. Mommy was in no mood for it, so he had to just work it out while I changed clothes.

Last night we had a 30 minute tantrum. She said she wanted a bath but then wouldn't get in the tub. She didn't really need the bath so I didn't force it, but I gave her periodic warnings that it was getting late and she'd have to go to bed without a bath if she didn't get in. Finally, it got too late so I drained the tub...oh boy. I'm really trying to be better about following through and doing what I say, since I find myself caving in to avoid tantrums way too often, but if last night was any indication, we're in for a rough ride. She's 26 months.

I don't know if it was really a tantrum because DS is getting over being sick, but he screamed for well over an hour yesterday and nothing calmed him down. I called our nurse line because I thought he might have strep or an ear infection (I need a referral for urgent care and I'm out of town) and the nurse told me to attend to the needs of my screaming child...it was rough. At home I totally just let him get all his crys out, even if it takes an hour and he seems so much happier for the rest of the day. He's almost 18months.

Not even sure what the cause was. I wanted him to go to his room, that is a difficult thing to do if he doesn't want to. I finally gave up trying to put him in his room/asking him, calmly, to stay. Was going to lose my cool so I walked away to get space. He chased me around the house screaming and hitting and then he actually BIT me on the ribs. He has never done that before, I was totally shocked.

2 nights ago, hitting, kicking, screaming, the works all because her show was over and I would not let her watch another one. I sent her to her room and she kicked and threw stuff and I told her she had to sit in there until she was ready to come out and not cry and apologize. and eventually she did.

@hilsy85: screaming in their faces is the worst. I feel so so guilty afterwards, but the worst part is it feels good for a split second. I guess that's a glimpse into the toddler mind?

Yesterday DS threw a huge tantrum because DH took him downstairs in the morning and I stayed upstairs to sleep in a bit. He had gotten up at 4:45, nursed for half an hour in bed with us, but kept biting me so I cut him off. Apparently that was a bad choice! He screamed for about 30 min while DH tried to figure out something to help him. It turns out playing with stickers was he only thing to pull him out of the tantrum. He's 21 months.

DD freaked out last week because I told her we had to turn off the water and stop brushing her teeth. I said she could take her toothbrush downstairs with her, but we had to stop playing in the water. She just lost her mind over that. She's also 21 months.

Probably last week, over bath. He HATES the bath lately, so he starts screaming as soon as we get him undressed, and that carries over to getting into pjs...it.is.awful.

Prior to that, it was when I had to get him to take medicine for an ear infection and he wouldn't--I literally sat on his chest and screamed in his face. NOt my finest moment.

The other morning, because Dh was getting her dressed instead of me. Full on screaming, but she is still a little young for the long lasting tantrums. Usually she screams and carries on for a few minutes but can be distracted in not too long. They are getting worse as she gets older (2.5 now) so I know more is coming....

But mostly it's the frequency of little tantrums that get me.

@snowjewelz: me too. DH is definitely the better disciplinarian out of the two of us. I'm working hard on being stricter! She really needs it and totally knows I'm the softer one. Then this morning in the car I asked if she knew why she lost her privileges. She goes and pulls out "yes, because you reprimanded me." I had to turn away and not let her see me smile. Where the hell did she pull that big word from??? LOL

@snowjewelz: it helps ME :P It forces me to stay calm instead of freaking out like I want to when she pulls $hit like that. ;)
But seriously, for M at least, when she gets like that, she just needs time to get it out of her system. But the mom side of me hated that I couldn't just sit and hug her because she was so distraught. Which wouldn't necessarily be the right thing to do either given the reasoning for her tantrum!

When was your LO's last EPIC tantrum? How old are they?

DD1 is almost 4 and last night we had a EPIC tantrum. I'm talking crying, stomping, screaming, swatted at me, kicking her door. Sent to bed early, Lost screen time, lost her two favorite stuffed animals. This lasted for 10+ minutes and I just had to let her get it out in her room since I was solo-ing and DD2 had to go to bed.

Where is that tearing hair out emoji?

It's been a while since we had one, so we must've been due for one! :silly:
