So for my first, I was induced that ended up in csec. My doctor told me that it will be sometime in the afternoon when the hospital will call whenever there's spots open. They called me at 5am and told me to come in as soon as possible as there was a bed open. Didn't have time to eat anything bc we were in a hurry to get to a room. And then I was induced labor for 24 hours, ended up in csec, and couldn't eat until almost 12 hours later. Basically I had not eaten for like two days. I was mega hungry after the birth. My husband bought McDonald's for himself up to the room and I almost threw something at him.

I had superfast, natural, med free (unplanned) delivery for my second. They were giving me food (juice and crackers) for energy as they were helping me deliver the placenta. It was awesome😂

I read somewhere to go with a PB sandwich, banana and milk. It's filling and has the nutrients needed to sustain you.
So that's what I did before my induction. I was in labor for 48 hours though before my eventual c section...so...I still ended up being ravenously hungry before it.
But if it's scheduled I could see it being the perfect "last meal" :-)

I had nausea hit me hard in my first C-section. My anesthesiologist was AMAZING. He handed my DH a bucket and got me some Zofran in my IV STAT.

In my second C-section they explained that the nausea is driven my the drop in blood pressure from the local anesthesia. I again had that feeling of nausea and they loaded in the Zofran.

I had a lot of nausea post op the second time around. I couldn't be upright in the bed for a good 24 hours. I had to be reclined significantly.

The point, don't be afraid to ask for the anti-nausea meds!

Be careful, I threw up during my C-section....hopefully whatever will be out of your system by then though! Also, I didnt get to eat for 3 days afterwards per the doctor so filling, easy to throw up foods is my recommendation!

I would go protein heavy if you can. I had oatmeal and yoghurt with DS because it was really all I could face. I can't remember what I had with my first. If I did it again I'd eat all the bacon sandwiches 😊
In terms of afterwards, with my first although the hospital told me to take it easy I was starving and ate cupcakes and hot chocolate and it was amazing. With my second I felt so sick I couldn't face even clear liquids until the next day, so you might not even care, but if you are hungry, you will prob be okay to eat.

@meadow: Twins will be here soon?!?! Yay!

Before my induction, I had what sounded appetizing. I wasn't sure when my induction would start but got the timeline around 9am. So I had breakfast (fruit, cream of wheat, yogurt). I wasn't sure if it was going to come back up so I stayed away from meat.

Good luck on your c-section! Can't wait to 'meet' those twins!

@meadow: for what it's worth, I was allowed to eat whatever once surgery was over...they said to take it easy because counting post surgery wouldn't be fun.

my c section was scheduled for 2pm, so I had a big dinner (i can't remember exactly what, but probably like chicken, potatoes and veggies?), then had a peanut butter sandwich before bed, and then in the morning had lots and lots of apple juice and gatorade until i had to stop all liquids. My stomach was growling DURING the surgery I was so hungry, and they didn't let me eat until the next morning...that night was complete torture. this time i'm going to sneak in snacks :silly:

I can’t remember what my last dinner was before my c-section - - but I would encourage you to pick something with lots of protein that will keep you full for as long as possible. My section was scheduled for the morning (so I couldn’t eat past dinnertime the night before), but because of emergency sections it was pushed back until 5pm in the evening. You just never know, so I would try to get as much filing bang for your buck as you can, just in case.

My last meal was Thanksgiving dinner! Would have been a great choice but my c section wasn't planned and ended up not being until Sunday morning! I was starving for my whole induction but I couldn't eat more than some crackers the first night.

grilled steak and shrimp, cheesy potatoes, veggies, and bread ;) I was still starving by the time I was allowed to eat. I wish I would have set my alarm and ate at 3:30 like my doctor suggested, I thought my big dinner would have lasted, but I wasn't allowed to eat until 10:30 the next night! (1:30 pm C-section.) I didn't know I had to wait so long until after it was over (I was out of recovery by 4 pm)

@meadow: My first c-section was unplanned and it was at 8pm, by the time I got out of recovery it was close to midnight. I spent my whole recovery contemplating what I could eat, what was still open that I could send my DH to get. I wanted to strangle the nurse when she said I could "sip" water. Don't drink too much, just small sips. GRRR!

Not a c-section mom, but my last meal was fish, roasted veggies, and French fries. I only got to eat half of it (contractions made me sick) and I was starving when labor was over and had just missed breakfast time at the hospital. Bring snacks!
