Definitely wait until little guy arrives and go with whatever feels right! No matter what you've told people, you can change your mind as much as you want! I love the name Joshua, it's my brother's name and he mostly goes by Josh.

This happened to us! We were team baby Jacob for a long time because we loved the name Jake even my older one started calling the unborn baby Jake. I told all my co-workers, friends and family that it was 99% likely that will be the name.

Then a few weeks before the baby was born we were looking at names and this one name shot out at us that starts with an L. We were kind of torn between the two now. Just weeks before the baby was coming.

We said that when he's born we will decide what he looks like.

When he was born ... DH looked at him and said... he's an L.

People were shocked we didn't go with Jacob. It's a great name.... but L fits him better and we are glad we went with that instead.

Good luck!

We are definitely leaning towards Joshua, but have agreed to make the final decision when we meet him. In the mean time we are (privately) calling him Josh to see how it feels!

We had a hard time agreeing on a name for our son. Finally we decided on Elliott. I liked the name but never felt totally committed to it. Well, our son was born after an eventful dramatic delivery and I didn't get to see him until about 4 hours later. When I was wheeled into the NICU to see him, the first thing I said was, "but he doesn't look like an Elliott". My husband immediately said, "Name him whatever you want". At that point he was just happy that both baby and I were alive and healthy. I immediately knew he was a Reed, but my husband had totally said NO to that name every time I brought it up. So I timidly asked if we could name him Reed and my hubby said I could as long as I asked my grandmother's permission (it was my grandpa's name). She of course said yes!

My grandma named her first child MaryJane. Only upon leaving the hospital did she learn what that was slang for. She immediately went back to the hospital and demanded to change the baby's name to JoAnn.

We are working on naming the baby we are currently pregnant with and we cannot decide again. Another boy! My husband has said several times that I'll get my way again even if he doesn't like the name. I love Luke, but I know my husband doesn't. We are trying to find another name, but I fear we will decide again and then I'll have the baby and think he looks like a Luke and decide to change it again.

I would wait until he was born, but I wouldn't hesitate to change it if you found Joshua fits him better. A friend of mine changed her son's name after he was born and she announced his (old) name, it never felt right to her.

@yoursilverlining: Funny story - for DS' birth, we went in without having decided on his middle name. We were debating between 2 since we figured we had time, except the stupid birth certificate clerk was HOUNDING US to fill out the form - like seriously every 30 minutes he would be barging in asking me to fill out the form, like while I was trying to learn to breastfeed! I kept telling him we didn't have his name finalized and as long as we signed the certificate before we were discharged, why did it matter?? He just kept saying we could change it later if we wanted to and kept calling and barging into our room. He literally gave me a nervous breakdown and my husband had to physically block the door and belly bump him out of our room and we complained the head charge nurse to keep him out!

We had a name for our son from the very beginning but chose not to share before birth for this very reason. Drove my MIL insane. But what if we met him and it didn't feel right??? We had a few friends change their minds at the hospital last minute because the name they picked just did not match their kid. It was actually really cool to hear about, I think it's awesome to respond to you kid that way - to value their individuality as a person.

For us, DS came out of my belly during the C-section screaming like hell and my husband just said "Hi Sam, you're okay buddy" and he quieted immediately stared at DH. That's when we were like yep.

This time we didn't have a name immediately but at 28 weeks so far only one name really appeals to us. We havent started calling him or referring to him privately by that name like we did with DS1 but we if we settle on it we are going to do the same thing and not share until he arrives.

Eta, and for lo2 we had gotten it down to a couple top contenders (James and Ethan) and he was born, dh said "he looks like.." and bam, a name that was never on our list was suddenly his name.

We had planned on naming DS Levi for most of the pregnancy, and had told close family/friends the name... then changed our minds at 7 or 8 months, so a few people were surprised when his name was Ethan instead. ;)
We had completely dropped the name Levi and chose between Ethan and Kipton after he was born.

Our little girl was going to be Vivien and after she was born she just didn't look like a Vivien, so we decided to change it. She didn't have a name for a couple of days until we landed on Clara. I think you should wait to meet the baby before making a final decision.

Another story - My sister in law named their second daughter and all the birth certificate paperwork was even filled out. A few days later they changed their mind, so they had to go and officially change her name.

This is EXACTLY what happened to us a couple of nights ago!We settled on a name at about 16 weeks and I've been calling LO2 Lorelei for months, we had even told family, but then, out of the blue, DH suggested a name that he had outright vetoed for LO1 and vetoed again for this baby a few months back. I spent the entire evening mourning Lorelei but woke up the next morning feeling really positive about baby Seren. It felt right somehow.
