@2PeasinaPod: @Pirouette: I'm considering cape may. I grew up in nj but have never been there.
We live in a city and have for the past 10+ years, so another city just doesn't hold as much appeal, so prob not philly.

@lawbee11: @SeptMomma12: my sister suggested that place too. Distance wise it's doable but looks like the only room available is crazy expensive. Need to do some more investigating on that.

Thanks all for the suggestions!

I would recommend Philadelphia or Cape May, NJ! Philadelphia is nice if you want great restaurants, and a little bit of the city, and Cape May, NJ is such a cute little shore town. They have a beautiful space for walking and window shopping.

Definitely Philadelphia - it's great for good dining, walking around, museums etc if desired. But it isn't as crowded/hustle and bustle as NYC. I agree with Poconos if you're anti-urban environment for this though.

Atlantic City or Philly - Both have great resturants and you can probably find a cheap hotel deal

I would second the poconos, if you like the snow.

Or if you prefer the city, a night in Philly would be my second choice.

what about something like Cape May, NJ? it probably wouldn't be overly crowded this time of year so maybe you could get a last minute reservation... i don't know how far the drive would be, but you could also check out the Hudson Valley area and i'm sure you could find a nice cozy town with a reasonably priced hotel. I just don't know if it would be too far from central NJ.

You don't find xmas in NYC relaxing?!?! :silly:

Any NJ, NY, PA bees that can help-

We are visiting my family in central NJ for Christmas. We've been floating the idea of taking one extra night and leaving C with my parents so DH and I can go away somewhere and relax, sleep without a baby waking us up, feel like a couple... All that good stuff.

Any recommendations of a destination that's within an hour and a half of central NJ, has something interesting to do, good food to eat, for right after Christmas? Not NYC since I used to live there, too expensive, and we are looking more for relaxing than hustle and bustle. And of course doing this totally last minute.

Thanks for any suggestions!
