But that's a lot easier because Evan is a totally accepted first name. My maiden name would make for an extremely strange first name! Same if I used my mother's maiden name. It could also be factor on the origin of the name. I have a Asian last name so that's probably why it wouldn't work as well. My current name, not maiden name is a boys name so that could easily work. I personally wouldn't do it because in Jewish tradition we name after deceased relatives so it's jut not in my tradition...... but if you like the name you should use it! As someone whose mother's maiden name is my middle name, I think it tends to get lost in the middle, so putting it first is awesome. Girl names aren't so much an issue, it's boy names that are giving us trouble. If he had his way, we would name a DS after his grandfather, a name I do not care for. I feel really bad about it, too, and have tried to like it because it's sentimental to him. No luck :( So here's the thing: he suggested using my mother's maiden name (a surname that will not carry on, as my grandfather had two girls) as a first name, and the child could go by the nickname my grandfather had throughout his youth and career in the military. My grandmother even calls him by it. SO sweet, right?! But...is it strange to have a last name for a first name? Especially if it's not something as simple as "Smith" or "Cole"?
