This was me on a flight with my sixteen month old last year. He didn't like Daniel Tiger until recently. At that age for the flight he liked Wonder Pets and Blue's Clues. He also liked a basic coloring app. And his first lollipop. Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. Short term.

Our LO likes an app called Baby Finger on the iPad. LO touches the screen and shapes appear and disappear with silly sound effects. And we introduced Daniel Tiger a few months ago when we had several trips coming up. He loves him so much!

At that age I think the only digital thing that kept ds' attention were nursery rhyme videos on youtube!

Peekaboo Barn (an app) has been a lifesaver for us on flights and when trapped in doctor's offices. My son also loves Sesame St, and I don't mind listening to it. My only advice (and it looks like you've already mentioned it) is make sure to have some stuff downloaded to the iPad instead of relying on Netflix just in case you're in an area with a bad connection (this basically saved the day for us this weekend when we had to entertain our 19 month old at 5:30am staying at the house of a friend with no internet, trying to get him to not wake up the 12 other people sleeping in the house....)

DS LOVES LOVES LOVES LOVES Mother Goose Club. I think the characters are a bit um, weird, but they sing nursery rhymes. DS sings along and since they've compiled all their mini shows into one long one, that's helpful also (vs waiting for the next show to load and stream).

@CakeLady: it's only 3min of distraction, but search five big dump trucks on YouTube - my 13mo old loves this silly little song so much.

@My Only Sunshine: As parents we are often forced choose the lesser of two evils - the most annoying kids toy/show/song is still so far superior to the screaming/crying/whining child in the back seat :silly:

There are youtube cartoon videos of kids songs (Mary Had a Little Lamb, etc.). If you just search "kid songs" or "baby songs" a ton pop up. I find them deeply annoying but my kid loves the heck out of them. Mickey Mouse Clubhouse is also a hit and 50% less annoying.

@mrs.shinerbock: DS is obsessed with the iPad, if we leave it within his reach he will find it and work on the lock screen for a really long time...

@regberadaisy: Thanks and I appreciate the reassurance! We do have netflix, I will look into baby genius.

@Foodnerd81: No tv shows yet. I will put some Daniel Tiger episodes on the iPad. Also, I totally didn't realize that Daniel Tiger was an adaptation of the puppet character from Mr. Rodgers! Makes me feel much better about it

So he hasn't watched any tv shows? My LO is obsessed with Daniel tiger, though I don't think she had seen it yet at 15 months. But that's our last resort in general- I downloaded 5 episodes on my old iPhone and put it in a kid friendly case. This way she knows she can only watch it on THAT phone, mommy's phone doesn't have videos. She hasn't really gotten into any apps yet, since I just use the Daniel videos for my last ditch efforts.

At 15 months, my LO had very little interest in the iPad, but the 2 apps that she did pay a little attention to (still less than 5 min) were Baby Bubbles and Kids Doodle. (We had a really long plane ride and I was in the same boat as you. )

I am judging myself just for writing this...

We are going on a long road trip with DS soon and I am trying to prepare car activities. I have lots of books, toys, a purse/wallet for him to explore and so many snacks. But I want to have some digital entertainment as a last resort. DS is 15 months and has had almost 0 screen timeaside from FaceTime with the inlaws though he is constantly trying to get every laptop, iPad, and phone in sight so I am sure it will entertain him.

Any recommendations for apps or videos that he might like and that will save my sanity?
