@SeptMomma12: for the most part. E was a great roller and she rolled anywhere she needed/wanted to go lol. She could scoot at 9 months but there was no interest to go anywhere on her hands and knees. Really, one day she just took off. Same with walking. We worked with her on walking along furniture quite a bit and bending to pick up toys because we were worried that she was going to hit all of her milestones late.

He is also behind in vocal development - doesn't use consonants yet - but that appears to be tied to chronic fluid in his ears. (Doctor says everything sounds like he's underwater to him, so he can't pick up on consonants, just the general aah and ooh sounds.) We're going to the ENT on Friday and will likely be looking at tubes to help his hearing.

I asked the doctor at his 9 month visit if she was concerned about a combination of large motor and speech delays, but she said absolutely not because he is extremely social and appears to be ahead on fine motor skills. He has been feeding himself with a spoon since 7.5 months and claps, high fives, waves, etc. with no problem. Also recently figured out the shape sorter toy.

So I guess he will get there in his own time. It's just so hard not to worry! Thanks ladies!

Tor was an early crawler and walker but he is totally on the later side of the problem solving. I think different babies just focus on different things

a lot of kids skip crawling and go straight to walking.

olive was a late crawler -- she was belly crawling though by 10 months. didn't real crawl until 1 year, and walked at 18 months, even though she was tiny.

i wouldn't worry yet if other cognitive milestones seem to be on track!

LO is over 10 months and doesn't crawl, she's in the 14th percentile for weight so she's little. She's meeting other milestones so I'm not concerned. All babies go at their own pace.

@SeptMomma12: you also may notice the babies ahead in physical development/ large motor skills might be less advanced in terms of social or cognitive development. No worries!

Thanks ladies! That makes me feel better. It's hard not to worry when he's the oldest kid in his class at day care but one of the few not crawling!

Also, those of you who's LOs had no interest... Did they suddenly just start doing it one day?

E was a late crawler (at 10.5 months). Even if it seems like they have no interest, it can happen so fast! She started taking steps at 12 months so my only advice is to try not to worry. I worried quite a bit!

my little one was interested in crawling until he was 10 and a half months. now at almost 12 months hes unstoppable. Honestly its no big deal, I was worried to but babies will do things on their down yime!

Mine didn't start actually crawling until almost 11 months. He could sit up, but wouldn't make it far creeping (moving like a seal). Not long after that he was everywhere!

Ellie was a little past ten months when she started crawling. She was late on every physical milestone (large motor-wise), but obviously did meet them. I forgot to mention that Lorelei is in the 10% for weight and Ellie was in the 99%. I would say that if you aren't seeing any red flags otherwise, and you are not concerned overall about his development I wouldn't stress about it or try to do anything. I didn't do anything different with either girl as far as enrichment or encouragement to meet particular milestones, and Lorelei was totally different from Ellie in pretty much every way. Babies just have their own internal time-table for these sorts of things. Somtimes there is an underlying issue, but usually it is just baby being on baby's particular trajectory. I wish Lorelei would have held off a little on crawling and walking. She has no fear, which means I get to have lots!!!

Dd is 96th % height but 63rd weight, and crawled probably about a week before 9 mo., so pretty average. I on the other hand was bigger than her as a baby, at least for weight (eta and aboutthe same for height too, in the upper 90s) and didn't crawl til 10 mo acc to my baby book! However, I was walking by 11 mo!! There's just a wide range of normal. I wouldn't worry!

My LO didn't start crawling until 2 days before she turned 10 months. Around 9 months is just the average, so there are tons of kids who fall outside of that marker. We worked with LO by placing high value objects a few feet away from her, by helping her to move her legs and arms (she didn't have any trouble getting into crawling position, but then it was like she didn't know what to do with her legs once there); and after a bit she got it on her own. I wouldn't worry! :)

I do believe big kids walk/crawl later. My good friend's son just started crawling at a year. He had NO interest prior to that. I wouldn't worry too much. Just try to continue to work with him, place him on his belly and put things he wants just out of his reach. He'll figure it out eventually.

Anyone else have a late crawler? My LO will be 10 months this week and has zero interest in crawling. We've been trying to put him on his stomach as much as possible, and he'll look like he may be thinking about it, but then he just rolls around. He started rolling very early and has always been a big fan of it, which may be part of the problem! But he's seems like he's starting to get very frustrated with just sitting and playing. He's in a big whining phase that's getting old very quickly! When did your late crawler start? Any tips?

I should mention he's a pretty big kid - 31 inches, 22 lbs at his 9 month visit. I've heard varying opinions on whether big kids crawl/walk later.
