@Clementine12: my son would only army crawl and was super "late" to crawl normally and also late to walk unassisted. My daughter was similar. Its hard not to compare but they honestly all do it when they are ready

My son was very late on all his physical milestones: didn't crawl until almost 2 weeks after his 1st birthday, didn't pull up on anything until almost 15 months and didn't walk until 17+ months. With each one, he showed almost no signs until he did it - with the walking, he literally just walked into the kitchen one afternoon out of nowhere. He qualified for early intervention, but the physical therapist came a few times and said there was nothing wrong with him physically, he just didn't want to do it yet. I was an absolute wreck, but in hindsight, I wish I had just believed her and accepted he was just late.

He's 5 now and an incredible natural athlete. No one believes me when I tell them he was so late!

@Mrs. Turtle: this is what I most wonder about - can it all happen at once or do the signs normally come first? I wonder if she figures out how to get up in hands and knees if suddenly she'll be crawling!

O crawled at 10 months and walked at 11 and ran at about 12.5. She climbed, pulled up and cruised in the same 24 hours she started crawling. Sometimes things look like they're a long way off and then happen all at once.

@Clementine12: I find it really interesting the way they all pick and choose which "milestones" they want to work on! My daughter crawled at a fairly average age (shortly before 9 months), but she didn't start rolling over until she was 10 months and didn't start doing it consistently until she was almost a year old.

My DS is also 9 months and cannot crawl in the traditional sense. The doc was not concerned and does not consider crawling a milestone. I worry as well, but I try not to! My older son never crawled until after he could walk and he could walk by 12 months.

My first was super early with everything- crawling at 6months, first independent steps at 9 months and full on walking everywhere at 10 months.

My second JUST started “crawling” last week (a week before 9months). Like yours, she doesn’t plank and hates being on her stomach so her “crawl” is this weird bum scooch. She sits and moves around by pulling with her arms. She’s pretty good at it now and can move fast.

I just filled out the 9month questionnaire and most of the gross motor skills she still can’t do- pull up, reach down and grab something while standing etc.
I KNOW not to compare my two kids, but I agree it’s hard- especially since her brother reaches all his milestones so quickly. I’m trying to enjoy where SHE is at and not rush her. The range of normal is so big! You are doing great mama!

My 6yo only scoot crawled at 11m and didn’t walk until 18m. She does things her own way, always. She’s in kinder now and above grade level for reading so i wouldn’t worry about that stuff!

@Clementine12: Theres some very preliminary, non causal research that suggests this. However, my kid could identify letters and numbers before he could crawl so I put no weight in the research. It's likely a proxy for other things.

22 months. Seriously. I was so, so proud of him when he finally figured it out. Everyone at the play gym was confused at why I was celebrating my 2 year old crawling through a tunnel.

He walked at 17 months and had been cruising at a year, but didn't pull himself up or stand unassisted until 17 months.

Crawling isn't even a milestone. Try not to worry. Kids just figure stuff out at different times. And I also don't think 9 months is late for Crawling

My son didn't crawl until 10 months and my daughter didn't crawl until a couple weeks before her 1st first birthday. My daughter is now 14 months and is pulling up but still not walking. Our pediatrician isn't worried about my daughter in the least - though, I find myself becoming super anxious that she isn't walking now because my son was walking for months by this point. I keep trying to remind myself that each kid does things on their own timetable.

DD started crawling a little after 9 months. Maybe around 10 months? Our pediatrician was never concerned. FWIW she didn't walk until 16 months and the pediatrician wasn't concerned about that either.

ETA - you are probably worrying about nothing but I think everyone does it. I saw a bunch of kids my daughter's age crawling/walking months ahead of her. It's hard not to compare.

@winniebee: thanks! I'm just being crazy I guess. I've been told crawling helps kiddos cross the center line in their brains and helps with reading down the line - which I know is WAY overthinking this and kids still crawl after they walk.

I don't think 9 months is late for crawling at all. Also, I read somewhere that crawling isn't even considered a milestone!? Many kids go straight to walking!

My LO is coming up on 9 months and isn't showing any signs of crawling. The questionnaire for this upcoming ped appt asks about crawling, pulling up, and cruising - none of this behavior is happening. My daughter rolls like crazy and will stand if I put her in that position. She does not get her torso off the ground, and resists my attempts to show her by planking, pretty much (girl must have abs of steel). We have lots of playtime on the floor everyday.

How old was your LO when they started crawling? Did they show signs of figuring out our before they started, or was it all of the sudden? Is my LO late or am I worrying over nothing?

Thanks in advance
