My first cycle after stopping birth control pills was 60 days XD The next was 55 days, and a few cycles later it was like 45 days. I got a BFP within a few months of trying, but it ended in a chemical pregnancy. The next cycle after this was 35 days, and then it started to go back up and stayed around 40-45 days. I ovulated every cycle after the chemical pregnancy. About 4-5 cycles later I got pregnant with my daughter. It was a really weird cycle because I didn't even ovulate till like Day 40 O.O I was sure it was going to be an anovulatory cycle, but it wasn't. My little girl is 14 months now :)

For reference I was 30 when I started trying to get pregnant, and in a year I got pregnant twice. I had talked to my doctor about my long cycles, and he said there may be a hormonal issue, but since they were somewhat regular, and I was ovulating it might not be a problem. I'm definitely not a super fertile person, but fertile enough to have a baby. We had to use OPK strips and have sex every other day starting 24 hours after the first + OPK until ovulation. I also ovulate like 96 hours after the first + OPK. I'm thin and don't have PCOS symptoms. They actually checked for it when I was 15 years old because I had irregular periods, and I was on birth control pretty much from 15 - 30 years old. I also started seeing a fertility accupuncturist on the cycle I got pregnant and started eating healthier and taking a Raw Prenatal vitamin. I had made an appointment with an RE, but cancelled it because I got pregnant.

Just started trying for #2. Had to completely stop breastfeeding for my cycle to come back. I ovulated on like day 45, so looks like this will be a 60 day cycle if I don't get pregnant, which is reminiscent of my first cycle after stopping birth control pills XD I'm still not sure why my cycles are longer than normal, but I do ovulate. Just kind of sucks having long cycles because I get less chances in a year than normal people :/

35-40 day cycle is not a total spoiler to a natural pregnancy. So, it's possible that you actually conceived even with a 25CD ovulation. You've just got to wait a while to be sure of the BFP. Fingers crossed - baby dust for you!!

Around 35 days cycle is usually considered normal in 35+ women. As long as you ovulate it shouldn't be much of a trouble to get pregnant - all you've got to do is do it as much as possible throughout your fertility window. It's less likely that prolonged menstrual cycle is the only thing behind your futile TTC over as long as 14 months. Ovary stimulants will do just fine to reset your menstrual cycle. But you also need to improve your eggs by following healthy diet plans with sufficient fibre and vitamin B12. However, consider getting a thorough diagnosis if the medications fail to do much even after 2 cycles. Often unexplained infertility tends to manifest itself in this very manner and all your RE says is "it will just take time - keep doing it timely".

@LabradorLover: I didn't read through everything, but wanted to encourage you start temping, use the app Fertility Friend, and to read the new edition (2015 I think) of Taking Charge of Your Fertility. It isn't as much work as it sounds, and it doesn't have to take over your life. using those tools is like turning an overhead light on when you're groping around in the dark. Also, if you're not sure if you're ovulating and have long cycles, might want to look at the chapter on pcos just to rule it out. Also welcome, and also I too love Labradors 💕

i O'd on CD42 with DD1. i only knew to keep going because i was tracking my temps. with DD2, we accidentally timed it perfectly to get pregnant as we were actually avoiding, but I didn't O til CD24 due to travel and stress of a move! so it's definitely possible and in my case, more probable! i remember looking for all sorts of charts on late O with my first. she's a strong and healthy 4 year old!

I had very long cycles (45-55 days) and temping showed that I was either not ovulating, or ovulating very weakly. I went on Clomid and the first cycle ovulated on day 21, the next cycle on day 20 and got a bfp! My son is now ten months old. Good luck! :goodluck: I know how torturous the waiting can be!

@catlady: I guess the good thing about my cycles (at least so far) is that no matter when I ovulate, AF shows up almost exactly 14 days later each time. So it seems like my luteal phase is long enough and hopefully I won't have any issues there. Watch, I probably just jinxed myself. :) Thank you for responding!

@revel: The waiting totally sucks, and I understand using a lot of opks - I started testing on day 10 just in case so I didn't miss anything and almost gave up because I was so frustrated. So glad I didn't because I caught my window and my husband and I were very excited! Hopefully it worked this time. Thank you for sharing with me!

@LabradorLover: i always had a lot of ewcm around ovulation, that would line up with when my period would come. For ttc for this pregnancy I did have luck with opks and temping. Just takes a lot of opks because I didn't know when i would ovulate!

I had a workup with an RE who told me everything was working, i just ovulate late, so that adds a challenge of catching the egg and having fewer chances per year. TTC this pregnancy took about 8.5 months but I think it was maybe the 4th time we hit our window in that time.

Good luck, i know the waiting sucks!

@LabradorLover: Completely understand about not wanting it to consume your life. That is something that happened to me and it sucked but at least TTC itself was fairly quick? I don't have a great personality type for "go with the flow". Lol.

@kayla0416 - I think it must be more of I might be missing my window of opportunity because it happens so much later than normal rather than just not ovulating at all but i'm not totally positive. The doctor mentioned femara and I got excited - my best friend did one cycle on femara and got a bfp her first time.

@catlady - I did just recently find out that I ovulate later. I have definitely learned a lot of info in the last couple of months and feel like I have lived at the doctor's offices. We just recently started going to a fertility center which is where the doctor told me this. I have been on b/c for basically my whole life and ever since I have been off of it, I have the longer cycles but I figured it was just my body trying to re-adjust.

My cycles were always like that. Generally mine were 32-36 days and my luteal phase was only 10 days so I would ovulate on day 22-26 or so. I'm sorry it's been such a long journey for you. Did you only just know find out that you are ovulating later? If so, perhaps you've just been missing your window. I've always known about my long cycles and short luteal, so I've been able to get pregnant easily (although I don't hang on to them easily but that's probably completely unrelated). I have 2 healthy kiddos.

To answer your question about knowing if you ovulated, you really need to track your basal temperature for that. I highly recommend reading Taking Charge of Your Fertility, which tells you exactly how to do it. It does sound like you ovulated but you can't really know unless you track your temp.

@LabradorLover: My daughter was conceived from day 25 ovulation and my current pregnancy (22w) was conceived from day 24 ovulation. It makes no sense that your doctor thinks you're not ovulating based only on long cycles. From your opk pattern, I would think you are ovulating, but the only way to confirm on your own would be to chart your temperature every morning.

Also, does anyone know how to tell if they ovulated? I'm really desperate this time so I'm still using the opk and this mornings were still positive but the lines are definitely getting lighter. LH goes down after you surge, right? So it seems like there is a pretty good possibility I did ovulate?

Thank you ladies, it gives me a lot of hope! The doctor told us that everything else is perfect and there shouldn't be any reason why we don't get pregnant just need to get me to ovulate. Really hoping we end up conceiving this cycle and I won't even have to start the femara!

Hi everyone, I'm new at this and just recently joined.

I have been ttc for 14 months now and it has been a long journey. I have been using opk tests and finally just got my surge on day 25 (on day 26 now). Doctor wants to start me on femara next cycle and see if that works because she says I am not ovulating since my cycles are longer (between 35-40 days long).

I noticed today I have breast tenderness, a "twinge" feeling on my right side and feel a little bloated. I think I am ovulating but am curious to see if anyone else has had longer cycles like this, ovulated and got a BFP!

Thanks 🙂
