I think we've let my LO stay up till 9:00-9:30 before. Her behavior is usually totally fine at night, it's just that she will still wake up early the next day (6 or earlier) and then I just feel like a bad mom because she won't be herself the next day and I know it's because I didn't put her to bed on time.

10:30 would probably not phase my 2.5 year old. Even 11 would probably be okay.

@.twist.: Same here. I want to be flexible but dealing with exhausted kids (not just that evening, but the next day or two) terrifies me.

My younger DS (18 mos) is not very flexible and his usual bedtime is 630-7, might push that to 730/8 if absolutely necessary.

Older is 3.5 and is much more flexible, doesn't usually get too fussy as long as there is stimulating stuff going on, problem is that he rarely sleeps in so the next day will be rough for all of us. Maybe 930/10, his bedtime is around 8.

For us, the key is being willing to leave if there is a melt down. If we won't be able to bolt immediately, we find a sitter or stay home.

Around 10 or 11 if needed on a day with naps

They passed out at 9:30 on a no nap day last month.

Honestly, the thought terrifies me.

He was such a terrible sleeper in the early days. When he finally started sleeping through the night (after intense sleep training) I didn't (and don't!) want to do anything to mess with it.

I wish I could be more flexible, but he knows the routine so well and I'm just really scared about breaking it. I really need to work on this.

My little night owl is just like her father and would prefer to go to bed between 10-11. That happens often on the weekends if they're having a nice time hanging out. I don't mind it so long as she can sleep in the next day, but those are getting rarer with preschool now.

Luckily DD2 is still young enough she can sleep anywhere in her car seat, DD1 usually can hang until about 10:30 before a complete meltdown. She lasted until 11:00 at a wedding reception this summer because she would not leave the dance floor! She crashed as soon as we loaded her into her car seat though ;) Not even out of the parking lot and she as out.

J's fine staying out late - we don't have strict bedtime or daytime schedules and he easily adapts. He's been out to hockey games that go past 10:30, baseball games, etc. and he's great!

I have a hard time with this because I want to be flexible about bedtime and my son, to others at least, doesn't seem tired when he stays up late. He gets wild though, instead of acting sleepy. I've pushed his 7 pm bedtime to 8/8:30 but I try to do it very rarely. He's only 14 months, and I think this will get easier as he gets older.

We can't go more than an hour past regular bedtime, we tried this weekend and my son asked to leave the venue just as it turned 8 pm. It's the early wake up that kills us.

Well Zuma is awake and it's 1:44, and she's happy as a clam. Her bedtime is 10, so we don't really run into this problem. Since she isn't a high sleep needs child, I don't mind when she stays up late.

Well we let him stay up until 10 a few times and it was a disaster he was still up by 7. But that was 6 months ago. So I would say probably 10 IF he napped. He doesn't nap anymore though so bed time is 8. We might do it for July 4 fire works.

We've never done later then 9 (he's 15 months) but he never ever seems tired so maybe he would be ok with 10ish? Usual bed time is 8.

LO does fine until around 10:30 when we have something going on, which happens a couple of times a month. His normal bedtime is 9/9:30. He sleeps longer in the morning if he's been up later than normal, so I don't sweat the later bedtime.

The latest Ds has been up was last month at my brothers wedding. We were at the reception til 10/1030, had to drag him off the dance floor (yes my 2.5 yo) and he went to sleep at 11/1130!

Normally probably nothing past 930!

There are a bunch of amazing free outdoor concerts this summer: the Met Oprea just had one, and the Philharmonic has one coming up. The problem is that they start kind of late, and end even later... and it will mess with the kids' sleep schedule if we go. But I have trouble saying no to free music and an evening picnic with the kids!

When is the latest you would push bedtime for a special occasion?
