@BandDmommy: I talked to the director at the new school. They are working with us to try to get her in a little early so that we won't be out of daycare for a full month. I understand it really puts them in a bad position legally, but I'm so thankful that they're doing it.

They also can't believe they're doing that to us. They usually refer families to our current daycare when they don't have room and they said they will stop immediately because of how unprofessional that move was.

@BabyBoecksMom: Definitely not an expert on this, but I do know daycare around us (DC area) has waiting lists a mile long, so if there's a cost-benefit analysis involved of taking a kid for a full semester vs enrolling someone later in the year because of a withdrawal, they would probably bump someone who is already enrolled. Just a thought - not that it makes it any better.

When does the fall semester start and when in September are you planning to leave?

I'm assuming LO turns 18 months during September. Does the new center have any flexibility in starting the month of the birthday? So maybe a couple of weeks early?

What @mrs. wagon: said. I would try to find it in writing first before you say that.

If you can't find it in writing, do what the others said and tell them she is going to stay and then pull her out.

You should absolutely say, I thought the business only required a 2 week notice of our leaving. I am giving you more than 2 weeks out of courtesy.

@BabyBoecksMom: If you only need to give them 2 weeks notice I would totally say "Oh ok then I guess I will keep her in for the fall semester"

Then on 15 Sept tell them you changed your mind :silly:

@Mamaof2: @mrbee: I can't find the contract, but we only have to give them 2 weeks notice when we are leaving. I thought I was being nice by letting them know way ahead of time that we will only be there for part of the Fall, so that they could get someone else lined up right after we leave. Instead, it's completely backfiring...

@catlady: That's what my husband said and I think we're going to try to do that. They said they already have people filling her position in the Fall, so they can't take her.

I'm just so mad at this point because that means that we'll have to find her a new daycare or try to make arrangements to work from home for a one month. Both will completely mess up her routine...

Our daycare might not guarantee a spot either. Mainly because class size ratios/enrollment numbers...sort of similar when I had to keep DS enrolled in school while I was on maternity leave with DD. Maybe it is because they don't have an opening even if you told them she would be enrolling? Does your daycare have a handbook? Ours doesn't do contracts but I do out everything in writing if I make a request.

Sorry you're dealing with it!

I'm not a lawyer, but a daycare is a business, so I would think they have the right to cancel their service to you (just as you have the right to cancel using their services)? I would look into your contract though and see what it says.

So sorry this is happening to you. :(

Is there a contract involved? Do they have written policies and procedures describing how this all works?

I'm so pissed right now!!

My girls are at two different daycares because one of the daycares only takes 18+months. I am moving my youngest over as soon as she turns 18 months, which will be at the end of September.

When I told this plan to her current daycare, she acted like it wouldn't be a problem (that was about 2 months ago). But, she just called me today, saying that they "canno thave DD2 enrolled with them if she won't be with them for the entire fall semester".

I'm so freaking pissed off. This is daycare, not a school! How is it possible that they can just unenroll my child when I told them I need her to be there until the end of September??
