@Mrs. Pen: http://www.leapfrog.com/en/pages/support/product_pages/leaptop.html

I got this for DD shortly after her 1st birthday. She loved it and still loves it! It helped her learn her ABCs, how to spell her name, and all the sounds that the letters make! Haha. (I helped a little too, but I give credit to the leaptop!).

I agree with @Mrs. Jump Rope in that an iPad mini is probably a better option for that age range if you really want to get him something now. It's actually a lot easier to use than a Leap Frog. As @T-Mom said, the Leap Frog is probably better for a 5 year old.

I want to get one for my 2 yr old, although it does say 3. BUT it says 3 to 9. That's a freaking HUGE age gap education wise, so I think I'll take my chances. I can always save it like PP. :)

My DH insisted on buying my DD a leap pad when she was younger.. i can't remember the exact age she was but it was a year younger than the recommended age. I felt that she was too young for any of the games we got her. It didn't get much use, but I have been thinking of putting batteries back in it now that she's older (5) and see if she likes it because it was pricey!

@Mrs. Pen: Chloe plays with our iPad all the time. We have lots of educational apps on it for her, and we watch Daniel tiger on it before naps/bedtime. I mentioned getting her a leap pad, but my husband would rather get her an iPad mini. We are considering getting one in the spring, or finding a used one to buy sooner.

A friend suggested looking into a lead pad for my 20-month old because I mentioned how I use my computer for a lot of homework and J always wants to use it as well. Most of the leap pads say 3 year +. Is there one for toddlers? Or is it basic enough that a nearly 2yo could use it?

Thoughts?
