@bludstriped bee -- glad to hear it!! It's good to have an explanation and a plan. Hope you get your bfp soon. I think if and when that finally happens for me, I won't be able to believe it. Just hope that day isn't far away because my mental health is not in good shape.

I have lean PCOS. I conceived my daughter with one cycle of monitoring at à fertility clinic after à year of acupuncture and six months of herbs. I went from not having periods at all to having regular 33-35 day cycles. My periods only just came back at 16 months pp and I've just re-done all the diagnostic tests with the clinic and have been having acupuncture again. This month we're doing unmedicated cycle monitoring again with ultrasounds and bloodwork and if it doesn't work we'll see where we go from here. I swear by acupunctre, it has been amazing for me.

I have PCOS, but definitely not the lean type. But, FWIW, after 16 months of trying, I cut out all white sugar, and processed food for two months and got pregnant.

@bluestriped bee: I'm sorry to hear that. I know it's disappointing but I also think knowing what is going on is good for devising the right treatment plan. I told my RE a few months that I was worried about my ovarian reserve and that I was afraid a lower one didn't bode well for me and he interrupted me and said that wasn't true at all and that low ovarian reserve isn't at all something that he (and the facility I was at) couldn't overcome. This whole process really stinks. You go through this awful mourning each month but no one really understands unless they've been through it because they don't understand how we feel and what we're experiencing. Keep your chin up and please keep us posted on everything. Thinking of you!!

chiming in, I have mild PCOS and after having 1 child through clomid I now ovulate on my own. but I still have issues getting pregnant (and I also have repeat chemical pregnancies which may or may not be PCOS related). I have very mild versions of the PCOS symptoms, wouldn't even notice them were it not for the fertility stuff.

I'd say your prognosis is pretty good, I wouldn't stress yet. I don't think PCOS will be related to an egg quality problem, unless you also have separate test results that show that.

I have also heard great things about femara and it is hopefully my next step in a couple months! (hoping for IF miracle baby #2)

Did any of you run into any issues with egg quality with your PCOS? I'm hoping if they ramp me up on meds that can be overcome if it's an issue.

So thankful for this website. It's so hard getting AF EVERY month :(

@TheReelDeal: I'm glad that making some changes were able to lessen your symptoms :) I will definitely work on stress relief, I've been super stressed for the past 2 years so I absolutely think that doesn't help. My diet is pretty good normally but I can work on that too.

@alohaorchid: I went no carb, no processed sugar/foods, and gluten free about a year and a half ago. It has improved my overall health and made my PCOS symptoms lessen. I rarely ovulated on my own so I took Vitex and it helped but it was late in my cycle, but that's a picky herb, so if you ovulate on your own I wouldn't try it. I think diet and stress relief is a good place to start.

Lean PCOS makes me sound skinnier than I am! I have PCOS - diagnosed by elevated testosterone and an ultrasound that revealed the classic string of cysts. - and am a normal weight for my height. I ultimately did go to IVF, but I don't ovulate at all (or very infrequently) on my own, have a large number of cysts and didn't respond at all to clomid, femera or a low dose injectable cycle of menopur, so IVF it was.

It sounds like you have a much milder case. My advice is to take the PCOS forums with a grain of salt, or perhaps avoid them entirely. (that was my RE's advice when I constantly peppered her with questions about what I had read  ). I found they only contributed to my anxiety while we were TTC.,

@TheReelDeal: Interesting, I'll have to try that! I just have around 5 on my chin that show up every once in a while, and a few around my belly button. I've had those pretty much for as long as I can remember, even when I was on BC for 12 years. Are you doing anything else to help it? Diet, supplements, etc?

@TheReelDeal: I had an ultrasound that showed multiple cysts on each ovary and I have some weird hair growth. I'm not sure if it falls into the PCOS category but my doctor says it does... it's just the odd hair here and there on my chin that I pluck. I also had a urine test, I'm not sure what it testing for exactly but my doctor said there were some "elevated levels".

Here's the thing - I haven't had blood work done yet because I have an insanely bad phobia of needles (especially of blood tests), which is why I got a urine test. I know I need to go for the bloodwork and nothing else can be done until I get those results so I'm kind of in limbo right now. :meh:

@mopeybuthopey: I did IUI my last cycle of clomid, but with that drug not working well for me I didn't get pregnant. I'm more inclined to try TI for a couple of cycles.

@alohaorchid: If you don't mind me asking what markers do you have that got you the PCOS diagnosis?

@mopeybuthopey: have you had any u/s ?
Lean pcos seems like such a poor term because weight gain is ony 1 of so many symptoms.
Regardless: I am suffering from "lean pcos". With my son, I used metformin for 8m.
With #2, it's been 11m of metformin and Clomid and more & still nothing. I'm going for a abdominal u/s to rule out cysts and the need for surgery.
Btw: I've heard great things about pcos+femera.

I don't have a lot of advice, but I wanted to comment because I'm in the same boat as you. I have no weight issues, no acne issues, my cycles are regular, I ovulate on the same day of my cycle and my periods are very regular. But, yet I'm still considered to have lean PCOS. So weird.

@thereeldeal thanks so much for getting back!!! We tested progesterone too and it did confirm I ovulated this past cycle. So weird that I have PCOS yet am in all likelihood a regularish ovulator!! I'm glad you responded to clomid and femara. I really did not care for the clomid -- had no cm and my AF always arrived super early with lots of spotting. So I'm hopeful about femara. Did you combine it with IUI? thanks again.

I have lean PCOS too! And I don't think your prognosis is a bad as the internet says

I think the first step is confirming ovulation by charting. It's the only way to know for sure you are ovulating. You can still be having a period without ovulation. I also suggest limiting your carb intake. There is a strong link between sugar intake and androgen production. I significantly reduced my DHEA-S and testosterone numbers by cutting carbs, processed sugar and processed foods.

I responded to both clomid and femara, so all is not lost there. I prefer femara because it didn't thin my lining or make my fluid hostile and I wasn't a raging lunatic on it.

Hi ladies - so turns out I may not be unexplained anymore. My doc got the results back from my bloodwork, and I have elevated levels of testosterone and DHEAS. I am on the thin side (bmi of around 19) so I must be a lean "cyster."

I read mixed messages online - some people say lean PCOS is harder to treat with a poorer prognosis for ultimately conceiving and other sources said it was more treatable. I am trying IUI with Femara this cycle and hope that may do the trick for is but I suspect we're on a collision course with ivf.

The doc did say my case is mild, and oddly enough, I have normal cycles (I think) and I could swear I ovulate each month. Very odd. Any insight/suggestions? Thanks guys.
