@Mrs. Confetti: omg. egg vomit is the worst. So hard to start eating eggs again after washing that out of your hands (why does the smell linger for DAYS????)

I learned the liquids in small amounts rule the hard way. Poor Wagon Jr. just kept throwing up more and more AND had diarrhea. So I was so worried about dehydration so I let him chug the water and pedialyte. Cue more and more vomit for HOURS (at age 3 he learned how to grab the trash can and vomit right into it because he was doing it over and over) until I realized my mistake. Then we did sips every 15 mins and the vomiting stopped. Mommy FAIL.

@BunnyDragon: @purrpletulips: @brownie: @irene: @T.H.O.U.: Thank you all so much for your kind words and advice. He another bout of vomit post nap, called the ped nurse line and some share-worthy advice.

1) no dairy for 24 hrs. Makes it worse. Same goes for juice (not that he has ever had it,but that's what they said)

2) diluted Gatorade or pedialite for liquids and starting in tiny amounts. First hour, one small sip every 5-10 minutes, then next two hours, larger gulps every 5-10 minutes. After 3 hours with no vomit, no need to worry as much about quantity of liquid as it is being consumed.

3) once stable, can reintroduce extremely bland food. No fruit except bananas, toast , crackers, plain pasta etc. (brat diet basically)

4) like Irene said, must be urinating every 8 hrs or you need to see the doc for dehydration. Also, they said if he is still vomiting after 48 hrs, he should come in

Other things I learned:

Even if your kid just threw up and seems fine, hesitate before getting in the car to go to the grocery store to get Gatorade. He WILL vomit again (sadness)

Like purpletulips mentioned, we are not alone. Big bug going around in Chicago as well.

I would keep pushing fluids immediately becasue you don't know how long this will last or how bad it will get.

I would call your doctor's nurseline and ask for advice... can you do that? LO has gotten some stomach bug 2 times (2 rounds of vomiting which lasted for days), but not projectile...

Here is what I learned/know with our case :
- Do not give them food within 1 hour of vomiting (so you shouldn't have given him breakfast at all if he threw up in bed?)

- They need to be hydrated and stay hydrated. Offer water, pedialyte, and liquids. Now I forgot if milk or juice was going to make it better or worse...

- If vomiting continues, and they couldn't hold anything down, I remember our nurse told us to give them pedialyte every 15 minutes and a small quantity each time. Don't just give them water or you'll end up with another problem.

- If they won't drink liquid, offer frozen pedialyte ice chips whenever you can.

- If they can eat again, the BRAT diet will make their stomachs feel better: Banana, Rice, Apple sauce, Toast. (This I learned from all the ladies at hellobee!)

- They need to have wet diapers every 6-8 hours minimum. Or you need to go to the doctor for dehydration.

If they are vomiting, they need a clear diet until they can keep that down. Once they can keep that down you can start on some solids but not fruit (it is acidic). We have a lot of GI issues so lots of clear diets and BRATY (diahrea) diets.

Not sure where you live but there is a nasty stomach virus going around in southwestern Ohio with the first symptom being vomiting. We just did a lot of nursing plus pedialyte. Hopefully that isn't what little C has.

When my LO had the stomach flu, he didn't really care for solids and kept asking for milk. I also gave him pedialyte to keep him hydrated. I'm a firm believer in probiotics so try giving him some yogurt or probiotics. Hope he feels better soon.

If your child woke up at an ungodly hour (5!) after throwing up in his crib, do not feed him eggs for breakfast.

Projectile egg vomit within minutes of eating. Which i caught with my bare hands. Oh. My. Goodness.

Any tips for dealing with a baby/toddler with some unexplained GI upset? If it continues more than 12 hrs, I will call the doc, but in the meantime, any advice? Have you been there?
