I would find this to be a little rude. If I am taking the time and effort to make you a hot meal and bring it over to your house, you can at least open the door and say hi to me. I don't think that is asking much.

I'd probably be a little irritated - I've always done/received meal trains through my Bible study (so we knew each other pretty well), and people would usually text to try and coordinate a good time to drop off. I usually don't linger unless the mom seems to want to talk, but I still think it's polite to invite someone bringing food in and say thank you.

I think it's rude. I've been on both the receiving end and giving end of a meal train and no one ever stays long.

I would be miffed unless it was a really really really bad time. I mean some times those meal trains may be people from work or people you don't want to see when you haven't showered.

Nope. This would be considered super, super rude in my area. If I take the time to bring you dinner, you can open the door and say thank you.

Nope! I make the trip, I'd at least want to say hi for a few minutes. We can arrange a convenient time for everyone.

I think it's fine. I want to help someone by dropping off food and if it's not a good time I don't want them to be stressed about it.

@Happygal: Not someone who is post partum, but a coworker that has cancer has been doing this. Or rather, her family has been.

I think it's fine. If people are busy and not up for visitors, but that's the only time you have to drop off food, then put it in the cooler.

Our local moms club does this. Honestly, I don't even mind as the person dropping off. If I know the person with the baby well I will set up a time to visit but sometimes it's nice to just drop and go, I definitely don't think it's rude.
Eta- Everyone sends a thank you text, no ty notes needed either! A photo of baby is always appreciated though.

Two people I know have done this--when you sign up to bring them a meal, they let you know that if they're resting, there will be a sign on the door and you can leave a meal for them in a cooler. Anyone else seen this/done it?

While arranging for people to stop by postpartum was stressful at times, I still wouldn't feel right doing this (even though it is somewhat appealing). At a minimum, I wanted to say thank you to friends for the meal.
