The only thing that helped me was magnesium supplements, not sure if those are recommended though.

Oh you poor thing. I woke up DH screaming several nights in a row with mine. They suck :( agree with @kodybear: when you feel them coming on flex your foot towards your head. Also, doing the opposite (pointing your toes strongly) can bring them on, so be careful when stretching!

When I start to feel the leg cramps I point my toes up towards my head. It stops the cramp every time!! I think I learned the tip on hb. I haven't felt one since.

@ladybee: I've had this problem as well, stretching before bed and Gatorade (I hate coconut water) are the only things that have helped, and I drink a ton of water! Good luck.

Thanks for all the advice! I will be picking up some bananas and electrolyte water. I've been drinking a TON of water but its clearly not enough. It is nice to know that its normal and not to worry.

Like PP said, take potassium, drink coconut water and use a foam roller like @evansjamie said. (They're great for massaging sore muscles any time, not just pregnancy)

Go get a rolling pin and roll the crap out of your legs. It's going to hurt like heck, but you'll feel better in the morning. One thing that helps me is eating one banana a day to help with my potassium. Also, stretching them out helps with the muscle soreness.

@ladybee: Do you sleep on your back? Because I would get them really bad if I accidentally slept on my back in the last trimester

I only had that a few times but it was awful! Like you I woke up yelling- scared the hell out of Dh too! My midwife recommended coconut water for the electrolytes. I can't say if it really helped or not but it was a nice change from regular water and helped with the swelling for sure. I was obsessed with it for the last month or so of my pregnancy.

I dealt with the same thing during my second pregnancy and use to scare the heck outta my SO with my screaming and flipping around. I started eating a lot of bananas because someone told me to up my potassium and it really helped!

Could you try upping your potassium? I know potassium works well for non-pregnancy muscle cramps and it may be worth a try this time. Beyond that, I have no useful suggestions but I am sending you loads of good thoughts for feeling better soon!

This is the first time I am ready to say I am done with this pregnancy. I want this baby out sooner rather than later and I'm only 34w3ds. I've started swelling, I'm having cramping at the bottom of my tummy (like above my vagina) that will stop me in my tracks, and now the one thing I can not handle is the leg cramps. I've had them throughout the 2nd and 3rd trimester but they easily went away. Last night I woke up screaming with them in both legs. They hurt so bad and they wouldn't go away. DH tried to help me as much as possible but that was early early this morning and now it's 8:00am and I can barely walk. Please give me tips to deal with this. :(

ETA: I'm drinking 100oz of fluid a day so I'm not dehydrated.
