We built a similar "complex" for our son using a coffee table. We have it in our playroom, separate from our regular seating area though, so it's specific to lego building. It's one of those Ikea ones with a shelf underneath and it works like a dream.

One thing you might be able to do is use one of those ikea shelving compartments with the 4 shelves?

For the more complex kits, my son likes to display them around the house, and I have made my peace with it and display both city scapes and buildings with our "regular" décor.

@misolee: wow, that’s brilliant! Now I wish we hadn’t gotten rid of our changing table.

I took an old ikea changing table and we cut the legs down to my daughters height. We also added wheels to it. The top we glued down the green bases. The second layer she uses it for other LEGO storage. It fits about 3-4 big structures (we have the hospital and hotel).

She can wheel it from the living room to play room. Last week we had some rowdy guests over (like toddler age) so we wheeled it to an extra room where no one goes in.

My 5 year old is Lego obsessed, and we recently realized that she has the makings of a village in her completed sets so we’ve been putting them together in Lego base boards so she can play with them. Great idea, except I cannot figure out where and how to store this sprawling complex of hers. I’ve been googling ideas and everything keeps coming up short. She plays in the living room so we don’t want to move it all to her room, and she plays on the floor so we’re trying to keep them accessible for her, but we can’t find a decent space to stash them when she’s not home. Our couches aren’t high enough to slide them under there, I’m concerned that putting them under our desk will cause someone to ruin it all with one push of a chair, and the one “toy” stand we have in the living room, she would have to move them on and off the shelf every time. Which I guess might be ok, but I’m searching for creative solutions. Pic for reference.
