@Mrs. Pen: I've learned the hard way that everyone seems to put coconut in everything these days! Actually I didn't even know about my allergy until I went on a coconut water kick and then everything swelled up. Sure enough, it showed up positive on my test.

@spaniellove There is also some evidence that suggests that gmo soy proteins mimic the peanut protein (you are typically allergic to the protein). That seems to be why soy is a bigger issue for my husband that a stray bean in his burrito at Chipotle... When he was tested for soy though it came back very mild, our assumption is because the soy they test with non-gmo soy. Scary stuff...

Good luck tomorrow!

@Cole: Thank you! I'm starting to think it may be soy...I had a few tastes of miso soup today without thinking about it and suddenly everything exploded in itch! Going to make an appointment with the allergist tomorrow.

My husband is allergic to that family of things as well. My understanding is that the legume family includes all beans, peanuts and standard legumes. Soy is where it gets tricky, both peanuts and soy are huge issues for cross contamination. My dh has a severe peanut allergy but thankfully the soy isn't terrible so he doesn't have to be super diligent. Let me know if you have any other questions, I am happy to help if I can.

Does anyone have any experience with a legume allergy? I already know from my allergist (and from horrible reactions starting in childhood) that I'm allergic to peanut, which is a legume. I've also realized recently that I'm allergic to chickpeas. And this is on top of my tree nut/coconut/palm/etc allergies. I kept having some lingering itching and reactions so I tried to cut out beans and felt a little better...this worries me!

Does anyone know about sources of legumes other than the most obvious, beans?
