I can see where you are coming from, I think for me it helps to go out of my way to decorate our home and to find other holiday centric activities. For me doing something festive weekly from now through the new year really helps keep the joyful, warm feeling going. We like to listen to carols and drive around looking at lights with hot chocolates, do Christmas crafts, watch Christmas movies and read Christmas stories all of which are nice ways to extend the fun.

@honeybear: Agree about the commercial thing, though I was surprised to walk downstairs yesterday through our apartment lobby only to see that it was fully decorated for the holidays! What the heck, Thanksgiving hasn't even happened yet!

I'm the opposite, I think that I prefer the Christmas feel in the suburbs because it's more personal {if that makes any kind of sense}. Plus I hate to be bombarded with Christmas in the city when it's early November.

I felt like the Christmas/holiday decorations in the cities I've lived in were almost all commercial, i.e., the lights were done by the stores and restaurants, not the residents. It was relatively rare that I even saw a tree in my neighbors' windows, but maybe their trees were just out of view--condo buildings aren't well suited for light displays. The decorations and lights I see in the 'burbs are almost all done by individuals who are just really into it, and I feel like there are a ton of them! Me included. :)

@mrbee: Yeah, you're right, I think the malls are probably gonna decked out soon. Maybe that'll jumpstart my Christmas cheer :)

@cmomma17: @Kimberlybee: @Mae: I can't wait for all the lights to go up! Hopefully people will get on it right after Thanksgiving ;)

@locavore_mama: I think it's because in the area of suburbia we're in, it's mostly big box stores and strip malls so there aren't any little shops or a cute "Main St." I would love it if we had more smaller shops!

A lot of our suburbs are fully decked out. One of my favorite things to do after Thanksgiving is driving around looking at lights. But then again, I live in Texas and some houses have lights on the roof that say "Jesus is the reason for the season." Which I agree so I love Christmas! LOL

I think the suburbs just do it a little later. Cities light up for Christmas in practically October. The suburbs wait until after Thanksgiving. Our neighborhood does lots of lights and whatnot! :)

Really??? I think the suburbs are very Christmas-y!

"main st" is always decorated as are all the small shops. Everyone's houses are decorated. You can go sledding so the festival of lights
, go cut down a tree etc.

Maybe it's just too early? I just noticed Christmas lights for the first time tonight, in another week or too they will explode everywhere!

I looooove the holiday season. I look forward to it all year 'round and nothing makes me happier than Christmas music and decorations.

But I feel like it used to feel more Christmas-y when I lived in a big city. There are so many more lights, decorations... now that we're living in the suburbs, it just doesn't feel as Christmas-y anymore :( And that makes me sad.

Anyone else feel like that? Help me find some more ways to have more Christmas cheer, please!
