It's a star that I'm pretty sure is Styrofoam. The front of it is covered in red glitter and my picture is in the center. Growing up, I always placed that ornament at the bottom of the tree and right in the middle so that Santa would see it and remember me. I know it's silly but I was so happy when my mom let me have it for my own tree and put it in the exact same place. I get plain wood ornaments from the craft store and we do our own designs. Sponge painting and drip painting worked well before he could control a brush. We just received a few personal, baby-on-the-way ornaments, but my favorites are still the ones I bought a couple years ago after Christmas. WE treasure it because every year we get it out we use it as a way to talk about the uncle DDs never got to meet.
