This is my first month on Femara. I just finished my last dose and am waiting to O. The side effects weren't too bad. I was really emotional and had a few hot flashes. Hopefully it worked for me.

@bluestriped bee: you may be surprised with the cost. It was super $$$, but now that it's available as a generic, it's much less $$. And I've heard stories of people having it covered by ins when other fertility meds weren't because it's not technically a fertility med, it's a breast cancer med. I used to be able to find the generic on the Costco pharm website, but they're only showing the name brand right now, not sure what that means. But Goodrx.com has the price at most of my local pharmacies being $17.20 when you use their coupon for 30 x 2.5 mg pills. Not bad at all!
EDIT TO ADD: that $17.20 is without ins

@mrs. bird: @sweetkate: Thanks for all that info.

Yeah, I did read that people were concerned about birth defects if you are pregnant but they say that your doctor should give you a pregnancy test before going on femara. But, yeah, it says it does clear your system very quickly.

So the only reason it's not widely used is because of the cost? I do have insurance but I wonder how much it will cost me. Hope it's not too bad.

I did two timed intercourse cycles with femara. I didn't have as many side effects as I did with clomid but I was really emotional. I responded to the femara but my RE didn't monitor me enough and we missed my ovulation both times. I didn't respond to clomid at all. As for the IUI, it is really simple. The nurse will work the ultrasound on your belly so the dr can get the catheter in the right spot and get the sperm in there. I hardly felt it. Good luck!

I don't have any experience with it yet, but from my reading, femara will be my first choice for meds. There were some poorly done studies that made it look like a scary drug, but it was bad science that has been disproven by other studies. I'm on my phone now so I'm not going to look for them now, but you could easily google & find 'em. My reason for wanting femara over clomid is for the most part to avoid multiples. Twinning with clomid users is 1 in 10, I believe femara is more like 1 in 33. I've read most ppl have few, if any, negative side effects. It leaves your system rapidly, so you & a potential fetus aren't exposed to the medication as much, actually it's completely gone by the time implantation takes place so the fetus isn't even exposed to it. Clomid thins out your uterine lining & dries up your CM, femara doesn't.

So those will be my reasons for going that route. Hope it's a positive experience for you & ends with a BFP!

I think there have been some on Fermara. From what I remember of those posts is that they either were on cloned or Fermara. I think it depended on insurance. I think people responded well on it. So sorry I can't be any more help.

I've seen threads about Clomid but my dr wants me to be on Letrozole (Brand name: Femara).

Anyone been on it?
Did they give you the option of having Clomid and/or Femara?
Did you have any side effects?
Did you get your BFP with it?

This will be my first medical assisted cycle. *Crossing my fingers and toes* I'm on cycle 9 so maybe it will be lucky cycle number 9? :)

I have no idea what to expect with Femara or having an IUI.
