But agree with those that have said the work/life balance is usually the trade-off. But, I don't know, once you're in that type of industry it is generally just known that you'll work more than 40 hours. </p> <p>When can it be generally acceptable to work normal hours and have great benefits? I would love to work less than 40 hours but in my line of work, it can be impossible. But just so you guys know, Google is not the end all be all for work/life balance - they have those perks so that when you're working you spend 12+ hours a day there. They got the whole week of the 4th off (no PTO required), get crazy vacation time, amazing benefits all around. Free cafeteria onsite (run by Wolfgang Puck or something?) etc etc. They don't buy groceries because they eat all 3 meals there (together) for free.
