Here are some ideas I did for various hard to shop for people:

daycare teachers: I put together a Trader Joe's gift basket (wine, soap, some of my favorite items, chocolates, ect.) It turned out really cute. Basket from IKEA.

Friend exchange: Mr. & Mrs. canvas pillow cases I found on Amazon, they were a big hit (and something I want so bad!)

sisters: we always do homemade gifts, I did Peppermint candy cane sugar scrub in cute bottles, I think they will go over well.

most kids in our life (under 8) I bought them all the IKEA easel, it's huge, it's nice quality, and it's a great price. Then I got chalk, dry erase markers, paper, and paint to go with it.

I bought a "growl tap" for DH and I'm unreasonably excited about it. DH likes to get a growler of craft beer from time to time, but it is hard to justify, because we don't usually finish them in one sitting, which means flat beer. This is a tap with a small CO2 cartridge you attach to the growler to keep your beer from getting flat. So ingenious. It's $45 plus about $8 shipping. I can't wait to see if it works, ha!

@mae: Perhaps a subscription to a good sports periodical or even bound copies of things like Grantland Quarterly? For soccer, I get copies of Howler, and there's also Eight by Eight or The Blizzard.

@Foodnerd81: No no, I get it, and it is brilliant! Just right now the vines are kinda in hibernation? Stasis? Not growing and they're still in their first year so they don't need a ton of tending yet. The chickens... I'm not so sure, other than my mother is very fond of them but mostly she just feeds them, pets them, cleans the coup, and gets the eggs. That's an every day thing but then they go to their regular typing-computing-saving the world one program at a time jobs....

We weren't doing big gifts with my sister who just got married (she opted out of secret santa because they will be away) but I got them cute coffee mugs that say Mr. and Mrs.-- but I know them well enough that I know they like cutesy things. My other BIL would be like, can we return this?

I went to the local co-op today and picked up some little stocking stuffer type things for various people. Badger cocoa butter lip balm (Fair Trade), goat milk soap made in VT, essential oils, fancy Fair Trade chocolate bars...

@Foodnerd81: They don't garden? But I get what you mean. My mom has a specific brand of lotion she uses, my dad doesn't lotion at all, and they aren't really needing to wash their hands all that often over any other day job. I guess that's why I'm leaning towards something to do with growing grape vines, tending chickens, or something they can consume/use.

But great thought, thanks! If all else fails maybe I'll get them some nice foot lotion or something since I'm sure their feet must be tired from work + farm.

@Mrs. Grizzly Bear: When I can't think of what to get my parents I get them experience stuff. Either one on one tickets to go with them to a play or concert or something, or something for them to do together like a splurgy restaurant they wouldn't usually go to.

@Foodnerd81: If you're near the mall I'd go look at the checkout line at sephora. They always have lots of stuff in there that is usually $5-20.

@Mrs. Grizzly Bear: I'm probably stuck in hand lotion brain, but do their hands get really dirty, then really dry, from washing? I know gardeners use the nail scrubby things then heavy lotion?

I feel like I need 1-2 more small thing for my husband. We usually spend about $200 on each other and I'm only at like $150. So far I've gotten him a fitbit flex, a fruit-infusing water bottle thing (from shark tank, he thought it was super cool), beard balm (again, weird but he mentioned wanting to try something like that out), and this little mini phone charger that fits your key chain. He *likes* fitness but doesn't really have time for anything because he works full time and goes to school at night. He also really likes music but he already has every album ever made. He's also a huge sports fan but his family got him lots of sports gear. And he hates clutter so knick-knacks are out. Thoughts?

For me- trying to fill out a secret santa gift for my sister. She's very picky and likes higher end stuff- but is also very good at including a wish list, with links, thankfully! I got her a nice travel bag/cosmetics case thing that she asked for, but could spend about $20 more to get to the Secret Santa limit. I'm thinking some nice travel size toiletries, but now I'm stumped on what exactly. What's a nice, sort of fancy, product that would be nice to have (along the lines of L'Occitane hand lotion or whatever?) Or say, nice toothbrush covers or something?
