I am voting for real leather if you're going to have kids all over it:) We have a leather set that we designed at a custom leather place and we say all the time how we are so glad we did leather bc LO always manages to drip milk/juice/something sticky on it. It was a bit pricier than a regular fabric but I'm so glad that we just did it and we can wipe it off and it will last forever. I'd only do 100% real leather...My parents and my brother did the "bonded leather" sofas (they look really waxy and don't feel like leather) and they have not held up and the "leather" wears through. We've had ours for 3 or 4 years and it looks brand new. Even with a toddler trying her hardest to destroy it.

Our next sofa will be the Parker from Haverty's. Below is just one configuration and there's five or six colors.

We have this one, which is from a local place, but it's actually the same as one called Dorset from Rowe. The color is called putty, but it's basically gray with a tan undertone instead of blue undertone. It's very comfy, without being marshmallowy looking like a lot of couches are (not sure what style you're looking for).

I also like gray--and instead of microfiber, I find that tweedy fabrics hide stainds/spills much better. Maybe something like this? http://www.roomandboard.com/catalog/living/sofas/watson-sofas

We have a flexsteel leather couch and I love it, especially with wood trim. It is on the bigger side, though.

@loveisstrange: Oh yeah, that all looks really good to me. It does come off nicely neutral.

@coopsmama: I think gray, cream, and brown are all neutrals. lol. But yeah, I think it would be fine. Here are a couple loose examples of that color scheme.

@cookiemomster: I know that brown is practical but I'm not sure I want that look. We have a brown couch right now. I really want a light feel to the room (despite the dark trim) and am trying to figure it out. But you're right - it's practical! ;)

@NCSUchick27: That looks really comfy!! Especially the chaise part. We have a loft area on the second floor that needs a couch, too. Something like this would be really great for that space.

@loveisstrange: SWOON! That couch. It's beautiful! :) Do you think gray would go well with a lighter off white carpet and dark wood trim?

@Foodnerd81: I would love to do leather for the clean up aspect but think it would be a little bit too much with big leather chairs as well! :-/

Thanks for the thoughts! I'm so excited to get a new couch. :)

Don't have a specific suggestion but I will say, leather couches make clean ups a lot easier. They aren't for everyone but definitely nice to just wipe away the spit up and spills.

I loooove med-dark gray for a couch. Id say go for something very clean-lined.

We have the Rowe Horizon chaise sofa and loveseat in a medium gray color with espresso legs. You can order any color you want though. It is really comfy and I love way it looks.

I'm terrible at visualizing stuff like this, but I think with light walls and carpet getting a dark brown couch that is similar in tone to the trim would look really nice, and balance the chairs out. Plus the darker color hides stains from kiddos a lot better =)

Alright, DH is gone for the night and I'm and bored and shopping online. :) We've had the same couch since we first got married back when cash was tight and the poor couch is showing that fact now. :-/ It is falling apart and after numerous blow outs and spilled drinks (thanks kids!) on the poor thing I am beyond eady for it to go!!

That said, with the move to our new house, we're in the market for a new one! We have two really nice red leather chairs that we will be keeping. They are pretty big and bulky (were a gift to us - they aren't completely my style but will do for now and they do look very classy!) so I'd like something that helps tone them down a bit. The walls are a soft off white and the trim in the room is stained a dark wood color. The carpet is a lighter tan color.

What sort of couch do you think I should go for? :)
