I only did outlets and a couple of latches for cabinets with chemicals. I basically watched him all the time and stuff he could open was fair game...it worked fine for us.

Agree with above!

I got all these magnetic latch things for cabinets and never installed them (DD is 14 mo). The only proofing we've really done is to gate stairs, and get corner bumps.

DD opens all our cabinets, but we're always watching her and she actually has listened to what she shouldn't take out so far.

I really think the level of proofing you need depends on your child. DD1 did it a few times and lost interest. We never did much proofing with her. DD2 gets into EVERYTHING. She looks at me with a glint in her eye and will get into trouble then she runs away giggling when I catch her.

My 2 year old still hasn't figured out pull down door handles.

We used the magnetic locks on just a few cabinets, and they are great. He can't get any fingers in there.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00PV6H3Z8/ref=pd_aw_sim_75_1?ie=UTF8&dpID=410jhbyfTXL&dpSrc=sims&preST=_AC_UL100_SR100%2C68_&refRID=0SJBTE3CVCFQ06RTRTRY

I hated reorganizing my cabinets too but in the long run it was worth it. I had linens, Tupperware, his bowls, pots, pans, measuring bowls and spoons, lunch boxes etc all at his level. Food, and dishes, and chemicals were the only things we put up. Chemicals we tried to move all to one location to make it easier to secure (instead of being in the bathroom and kitchen.)

He never messed much with the toilet, but we just kept the door closed.

We have lever door handles and use the monkey locks from Amazon on all the interior doors including our hall closet and bathrooms, so we didn't have to separately baby proof the toilets and what not. They are also easily moved around and we take them when we travel too.

Door Monkey Door Lock and Pinch Guard https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004ECJWK4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awd_wmwXwb41DV2C1

For rooms he is allowed to wander into we got these foam hands to prevent him from pinching his fingers:

Finger Pinch Guard for Door. Rotatable Stick-On Design Door Stopper. Child & Baby Proofing by Sure Basics, 2 Pack https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00S9KR3N0/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awd_JowXwbF3HZQB1

For our gas fireplace, we just taped it shut with clear packing tape and never use it.

We have a chain on our front door and we have the back sliding glass door always locked. We installed those hook things to wrap up the blind cords so they are out of reach.

Kitchen cabinets we did drill those plastic hook latches inside but even they open a few inches so DS is always digging his hands around in there and recently poured out a sack of sugar all over the kitchen floor so we keep a chair up against that cabinet.

Although I haven't tried this a suggestion someone gave me was to give my son one drawer and one cabinet he can open up and dig around in filled with safe objects like linens and Tupperware or even play food so that it directs his curiosity to a single place, instead of him trying to dig through all the cabinets. My SIL does this and her son makes a bee line to the tupperwares every night while she cooks. I decided to get a learning tower up against our island instead.

When we go to my parents, those cabinets next to the oven, I tape up with more clear packing tape. It's not foolproof but buys me enough time to stop him.

No it's just the old school plastic kind, like these. They are annoying but we only needed them for two cabinets, the rest are side by side.

@Foodnerd81: do you like the screw in magnet kind? was there a brand you liked?
Maybe this weekend will be dedicated to kitchen reorganization and purging. I'm totally type A with regards to how my kitchen is organized for function and space maximization; I will go nuts if I just have to throw shit somewhere in the interest of baby proofing :)

@Littlebit7: it will be a while before she is tall enough or coordinated enough to do the door latches- but yeah then you are kind of stuck. Hopefully you can just teach her to stay out. Fwiw once my LO figured out door knobs, we put a cover on the one to our bedroom and she figured it out in a day.

For those cabinets I think the screw in inside kind is your only option. Or putting safe things in there but I hear you on only so much cabinet space. You can't see the hook things from the outside at all.

@regberadaisy: sure! Attached below. Front door has a deadbolt and chain. Back door he a deadbolt. Need a high up chain or latch. Good call.
Fireplace is a gas insert literally 6 inches form the floor which we don't use unless she is asleep. I gave up keeping her out. It doesn't have a pilot
Good call on toilet seat. No stairs. Bathroom cabinets are awaiting whatever ends up working in the kitchen. They have less moulding so I might be able to use adhesive latches
@Foodnerd81: that's a good idea of moving stuff high. I have an awkward cabinet above the sink that has been a catch all. Perfect solution for the very bad stuff.
We have those dumb lever type door knobs. I don't know why I'm going to do about those
@catomd00: I've been starting this with her. I'm trying to not go overboard but I am limited with storage so some things just have to be locked up because they are in a super temping area.

also in the first pic is a corner cabinet with spinning shelves. i can just imagine the chaos if that thing doesn't get locked. :silly:

Is there someplace high up you could but the BAD stuff, like swap with a high cabinet? We have the cord locks and at 2.5 my LO CAN open then if she really tries but she isn't that interested. When it was more dangerous she couldn't figure it out. We have a combo of the cords, adhesive side by side locks, and the inside screw in type that you have to push down.

Other than the cabinets, we babyproofed some sharp corners and removed a couple of low shelves that should could fall or climb on and put up a baby gate to block off the entry way where there was more stuff we didn't want her to get into. We just closed the doors to bathrooms. Lucky for us she was slow to figure out door knobs!

That sounds adequate to me, but I never baby proofed anything! At 2 DD is very aware of what she is not allowed to touch and knows the oven is hot and the cleaning supplies are Yuckies. She's never alone long enough to get into something anyways. My FIL says she hasn't reached the exploration stage yet - hopefully he is wrong!

So LO is 10 months old. She's getting into things but isn't crafty/sneaky yet.
The kitchen is my biggest worry. I don't want to go overboard on baby proofing as our apt is small and open plan so I pretty much can see her at all times. Big things like outlets are covered.

I have the kitchen sink cabinets with the BAD stuff with one of those cord locks, but thats easy to forget to rehook. Our cabinets have a lot of moulding so adhesive latches don't work. We are in a rental so I'm hesitant to put screws into the cabinets. AND we have a lot of cabinets that don't have a door next to them to use a slide-on latch-type lock where you lock the two pulls together.
Thus far I've consolidated other less-bad items into two cabinets with side by side knobs and put a cord lock on. The other lower cabinets are things that are either too heavy for her to get out or stuff she can throw around.

But this a temp solution. does anyone have any recommendations for secure solutions with minimal damage to the cabinets? I see those magnetic drill-less locks on amazon but half of the reviews are from comped reviewers which always sketches me out.

What else am I forgetting? She's not walking yet but she is pulling to stand. do they pull open oven doors?
