My daughter knows that I bleed and that she will one day and that it's totally normal and okay. </p> <p>I'm also on a mission to inform my pregnant friends that their first period postpartum will probably be a doozy. Nobody told me. DD1 already knows about tampons but she's still a little young to understand periods but she knows what tampons are and that mommies need then sometimes. Not really, but I am that person that everyone talks to about their bodies.</p> <p>My LO is a boy and I have been thinking about how important it is to talk to our boys about periods and fertility. He's 1 so it will be a while before that's something we need to talk about. When I was a kid, my grandma brought me a book about menstruation she'd bought for a dime when her local library was getting rid of old books. I don't think she actually looked at it, but it was written in the 1950s and along the lines of "menstruation will make you weak and you may faint, so don't over-exert yourself housecleaning or ironing".
