@sometimesshesings: @maddyz: Filing this away for my 3.5 yo and still baking daughter :) Maybe my boy will be one of the awesome ones who carry a few spare tampons and pads in case his friends who are girls need them. Haha!

@maddyz: it may not be THAT long! My DS started getting curious before he turned 2. At the ripe old age of three, he knows all about periods!

I'm super comfortable talking about it. My daughter knows that I bleed and that she will one day and that it's totally normal and okay.

I'm also on a mission to inform my pregnant friends that their first period postpartum will probably be a doozy. Nobody told me. I thought I was hemorrhaging, I called the doctor and my mom and they were both like, "Oh yeah, that's normal."

Perfectly comfortable talking to my girls about it! DD1 already knows about tampons but she's still a little young to understand periods but she knows what tampons are and that mommies need then sometimes. It's not a secret and nothing to be ashamed of.

Periods are pretty much my favorite topic of conversation. Not really, but I am that person that everyone talks to about their bodies.

My LO is a boy and I have been thinking about how important it is to talk to our boys about periods and fertility. He's 1 so it will be a while before that's something we need to talk about. But I would like for him to understand it and know that is it a natural and healthy process, not a mystery.

I talk about mine a lot because I hate it. My LO knows what it is and I will continue to talk to her about it as she gets older. No shame.

We talk about it all the time, it really isn't a big deal. My daughter already knows that big girls bleed once a month when they're not pregnant.

I would definitely be comfortable having a matter-of-fact period talk. When I was a kid, my grandma brought me a book about menstruation she'd bought for a dime when her local library was getting rid of old books. I don't think she actually looked at it, but it was written in the 1950s and along the lines of "menstruation will make you weak and you may faint, so don't over-exert yourself housecleaning or ironing". I should dig that thing up the next time I'm home and donate it to a museum  Combine that with the fact that I went to a religious school that didn't have sex ed, only abstinence ed, and yeah, I was pretty much horrified of getting my first period.

Thinx got me thinking. How comfortable are you talking about periods IRL? If you have a daughter how do you feel about having the period talk?

This video made some interesting points. (Bit long though)
