@78h2o: That was very similar to my swelling. It was almost all in my legs. I didn't get the puffy face or arms, but man oh man, did my feet turn into big ole pillows. They ached constantly from about 34 weeks until the end. Awful.

Ok, I'm back with photos. My doctors were never concerned about it because my blood pressure was always good. I drank tons of water and watched salt, but it didn't do much.

around 28 weeks, in the morning, some mild swelling...
[attach=2480/13/mn7k4d.600x448.feet-morning-around-28.JPG]

towards the end, probably 34 weeks? they were always swollen, from am to pm. :( So painful!

@cascademom: That's exactly what happened to me, but I also hemorrhaged during delivery, so I got extra meds/fluids for that too.

But BEFORE I was induced (it was a surprise induction), I started swelling around 26 weeks, and it got progressively worse . . .I had pitted edema from the knee down (more like mid-thigh down, I digress . . . .), and my feet were so swollen that they felt like they were going to burst when I stepped down. I was miserable!

ETA: I had LO at the beginning of September last year, so I went through the hottest months of summer in the South.

I had to stop wearing my wedding ring at 26 weeks, but that may have been more due to my weight gain than anything. As for my feet... this photo speaks for itself.

This started happening about halfway through the third trimester. It was bad enough that my midwife was concerned, but my blood pressure never went too high and everything else was normal. They were down to normal size within a couple hours after giving birth.

Thanks everyone! Maybe I'll be one of the lucky ones with minimal swelling! Can you tell I'm in denial?

@mrskc: Did you go to the beach for the day while pregnant? My stepkids will be staying with us basically for the entire month of June, and I'd love to go to the beach with them, but I am worried I will be miserable or totally swell up and there won't be any going back (I'll be 7-8 months pregnant at that point)!

I had BAD swelling. Like I was unrecognizable, even my nose was swollen. But I had Pre-e, so thats why. Before that, I had minor swelling in my feet and hands, which led to carpal tunnel. That was June/July in NYC. SO HOT...

I took my rings off around 34 weeks just because I was scared about swelling and didn't want them stuck!! :P

I didn't swell much (had baby in Nov in MI), throughout pregnancy.

The swelling came postpartum after the EPI & IV edema!!! :P

I started swelling at 24 weeks. It was terrible. I gained 40 pounds, but I swear 15 of it was in my ankles. I had one pitiful pair of flip flops that I could wear.

I wouldn't wear capri's, even though it was super hot because they looked so terrible.

My swelling really got going at 37 weeks when the baby dropped. If I just limit the salt, drink a lot of water, prop my feet up when I can, and swim I can minimize it quite a bit. The swimming helps the most! Our childbirth instructor said the hydrostatic pressure was good for helping even it out.

I started swelling up a little bit at about 36 weeks, but it's still not that bad, even at almost 39 weeks. It's mostly just my feet at the end of the day, and I'm not wearing my ring just to be on the safe side. The swelling coincided with the warmer weather, so if it had been hotter, I'm not sure if I would have swelled sooner or not.

My rings came off at 4 months pregnant. I had to wear flip flops for the last month because my feet were so puffy. I actually had to buy a new pair of flip flops that were stretchy enough to get my feet into. My rainbows didn't fit anymore. My swelling was mostly in my feet and ankles.

I didn't really swell. I was still able to get my rings on and off with ease at delivery (I got them cleaned often and the jeweler commented how most people can't take them off). I was pregnant during the winter/spring though.

My friend, who is skinny and had a nice all in the front bump, swelled like crazy with her first! Her baby was due in August and we live in PA. She works long 13+ hour days standing though and worked until she delivered. She literally had to ice her feet in the morning to get them in her shoes and said as soon as she walks down stairs in the morning they were balloons. Her swelling stayed mostly in the legs/feet area. She didn't have as much in her second pregnancy, which was winter/spring and she gained/carried the same.

I'm carrying twins so my situation is a little different but I had to stop wearing my rings around the 20 week mark and not a single pair of shoes has fit for the last 8 weeks, including flip flops! I finally bought a new pair of sneakers that are an entire size up from what I usually wear and my toes are touching the end...so basically, my swelling has been really bad, my hands always kill when I wake up in the morning! Will definitely not miss that!

I've had bouts of random swelling, so even if its bad now it may either not get worse or go away altogether. Today is my due date, it's 90 outside and I don't feel swollen. So there is hope! Keep up with your water and try to elevate your feet for good periods of time.

I was 9 months prego in Texas summer also! I stopped wearing rings at 6 months, I blew up like a balloon. I also carried a LOT of water weight. I could barely wear flip flops even the 2 weeks before I popped. Weeks 36-40 I spent almost all my time laying on my left side with my feet propped up.

I'm 32 week tomorrow, and just started swelling at 30 weeks. It comes and goes. Exercise helps keep the foot swelling down. My hands don't FEEL particularly swollen, but my rings were getting tight, so I got a stand in ring and just wear that every day.

Flying (I've done it twice in the past few weeks) makes feet swell enormously.
