@Littlebit7: when my oldest started Pre-k3, I was worried about that too, but she ended up always pooping on the afternoon after school. We literally never once have had streaky underwear in 2 years of pre-k, and. Now she's really good at wiping herself.

My second kiddo is starting pre-k 3 this year and I'm minimally worried just because she's been an evening pooper for some time, so I'm hoping that continues. We'll see!

My 5 year old is going into kindergarten year 2 and I still use wet wipes on her after poops. Last year in her first year of school she ended up with dirty underwear a couple times but she really didn’t poop at school much. I need to make a better effort at letting her do it herself at home.

Yikes, this is still a problem for my five year old! We've been trying to get him to wipe himself for a year now, but he still needs QC way too often. Luckily he usually doesn't go in school, but when he does I often find out about it at home in the grossest way possible :bummed:

And then there's the three year old, who waits for me to get home before she does her business.

I wipe way too many butts. I'm all pooped out.

@Mrsbells: I think they can. They actually requested wipes to be supplied by parents (I guess I’ll get regular...a lot of the flushable wipes aren’t really flushable so don’t want her to be confused. The underground systems where we live are ancient).

@Littlebit7: another thing is that flushable wiped like kandoo are so much easier for them to use than regular toilet paper. So see if that's an option for you to bring in flushable wipes or atleast she can practice with them at home

@LAZB: thanks! It’s good I know I’m not alone. And I know I can’t be alone! @Adira: @Mrsbells: I’m guessing she will not poop at school. However she toes the line of being consitpated so I also don’t want her to start holding either.

We will figure it out; good thing I stocked up on underwear. I just don’t want a regressing if she tries to hold it and has accidents. She’s fine with pee, but as we all know, sometimes ya just gotta
poop.

@Littlebit7: how old is she? I taught DD to wipe around 3.5 by telling her to wipe downwards like a choo choo train lol. But wiping her butt is definitely much harder. She didn't poop at school for 99% of the time so that helped

My kids stopped pooping at school pretty quickly, so hopefully that will be your experience as well!

With my 3.5 year old, it's a daily "I have to poop when we get home!" and I have to wipe him. My oldest probably got better at wiping himself around 4.5-5.

At orientation for my 3.5 year old dd I said something about needing help wiping, and the teacher quickly responded that they don’t do that. NO other parents said anything, and I was pretty embarrassed. I know my kid isn’t the only one that has issues and needs help, I couldn’t believe everyone else was silent. The next day at meet the teacher, I had three parents say something to me about how they don’t know how their kid will do because they can’t do it at all on their own. anyway, no point here really except to say you’re not alone in this issue.

Yeah I agree completely. I think it’s a ridiculous ask to expect 3 year olds to wipe poop. There isn’t even a potty training requirement for this school (it’s public prek) so teachers are changing diapers, although I’m sure they don’t love that either. So I don’t get why they will change a dipe but won’t wipe a butt.
I actually doubt my LO will even poo at school, but there are weeks when she goes more than normal and with a full day of school it’s inevitable. She did camp this summer which was supervised by some college kids who obviously weren’t wiping; she came home with underwear full of poop one day. She hasn’t had an accident EVER. I was pissed.

When DD started at daycare 2 months shy of being 3, she came home with dirty underwear daily. I complained to the teachers and it did nothing. I then spoke with the director and insisted she get help. I was irate by that point: there are plenty of 3 year olds who aren’t potty trained at all, so you certainly can’t expect one who is to wipe herself. We didn’t have problems after that.

FWIW the teachers said they weren’t wiping her because they didn’t know she was pooping. Apparently other kids don’t poop at school. But the director told them they had to ask if she was pooping/needed help or something. DD2 is at the same school and either she just wipes better or they help her (she’s 28 months).

So my older daughter starts full time
Pre-K next week. Kids don’t have to be potty trained but she is except nights and naps.
I just found out that they are expected to wipe themselves. She can’t do that, at least not well. I mean, there is a cursory wipe with a square of paper (or 48271749 squares). If there’s a poo, she can’t be trusted at all
I can send wipes to school which will be better.
But should I just expect a dirty butt daily? Any tips to maie teaching her easier?

Also, she wears a pull up for nap (she’s also in the crib still). I’m thinking at school no pull up obviously and they can just deal with it.
