I love the idea of having an annual holiday party but I am not sure if I will get my act together in time to make it happen this year.

Loving all these great ideas!

I put Appetizers + Drinks on the invite. My guest list ended up being 30+ and I love the idea of some heavy apps (meatballs or chili) mixed with lighter fare and some festive drink stations.

@bpcmarj: You should have one! None of our friends ever throw parties so we always end up having them at our house.

But I've also had a Feliz Navidad party (Mexican food, music and decorations) as well as Mele Kalikimaka party (Hawaiian/ tropical) both were fun to get into the theme :)

I used to have a Christmas caroling party every year. I'm looking forward to when the kids are older and we can start up the tradition again :)

We throw a party every year! I am looking for some fresh ideas for this year too :)

We usually do lots of aps, plus one larger item, like chili. This year we're thinking of doing pulled pork sliders.

heavy apps! mini meatballs with toothpicks, spinach artichoke dip with pita chips.

i always do a mulled cider and then have whiskey or rum to spike it if people want.

Heavy apps would be good. I've recently had bacon wrapped brown sugar little smokies, and they are super good! Other easy apps can be a large bag of frozen chicken wings, they come in lots of great flavors and you just bake. Meatballs in a crock with bbq sauce are also super easy. Maybe you can even throw in an easy pasta salad and/or green salad as a filler?

A hot chocolate and coffee station are always party hits also.

I don't have much input, but I think heavy apps would be fine (like hot apps, not just cheese and veggies!). Just be sure to include that on the invite (evite?).

Also, I want to go to a holiday party. I am not sure that my work has one, and I don't think any of our friends are going to have one...boo.

We had a hot cocoa and festive treat bar at our wedding, and it was a big hit!

Heavy appetizers would be great. Personally, a party with an array of cheeses *always* wins me over.

I would focus on scents and tastes of the season - cranberry, nutmeg, cinnamon, maple, and peppermint. Lots of yummy drinks, dips, and toppings could be made with those ingredients.

If the party starts at 5, I'd suggest mentioning heave appetizers on the invite so people don't come expecting a full meal.

@locavore_mama: hot choc bar = awesome

I'd make one main showstopper like a big bowl of chili with accoutrements or ham, biscuits and jams. Then a couple other smaller nibbles like artichoke or crab dip. A few different desserts would hit the spot.

I'm styling a party this weekend for kids, along with an adult beverage station.

I'd go heavy on the apps, hot chocolate bar, mimosa station and lots of bite sized snacks-- like s'mores pops, Hershey kisses, cookies.. Targets dollar bin has a ton of holiday stuff right now that's perfect for this!

@RubyCali: I'll lean more towards heavy apps! A full meal is hard to eat without sitting down. Unless you have a ginormous dining table!

Depends on your guest list. If you have more people I think heavy apps are OK so long as there's enough of them to be filling and people know.

If we do one this year I might do a hot chocolate bar!

I throw a holiday party every year and am looking or some new inspiration! What food/drinks do you like to serve (or consume!) at a holiday party? If a party starts at 5:00 would you expect a full dinner, or would heavy appetizers be okay?

Recipes and links welcome!
