I've been on Zoloft about 6 months (different drug, same class). I had the sleep issues when I started for a few weeks - definitely take in the AM.

I also have lowered libido/harder time reaching O. I get super sweaty at night.

But... worth the side effects, for me. Go up on your dose slowly

@Madison43: Wow that is crazy! I have been on it for 18 months and the only side effect to speak of is lowered libido. Which SUCKS but the lexapro is a miracle drug for me so I just deal with it.

@Madison43: I got pregnant a month after starting it! I have had 2 small glasses of wine since being pregnant (very, very small), and they affect me much less than the glass of wine I had a week into starting Lexapro (we had a trip to wineries planned before I knew I’d be starting on it). I’d say after your side effects subside you should be fine.

@Becky: Thanks! Its good to hear taking it in the a.m. solved the sleep issue for you. My other question - if you don't mind - are you able to drink at all while taking it now that you are used to it? I am not a heavy drinker at all, but would like to be able to enjoy a glass of wine occasionally.

I switched from taking Lexapro at night to in the morning about a week in—it was majorly disrupting my sleep, and taking it in the morning solved that very quickly. I had horrendous headaches all over my head at first too, but they subsided in about 5 days, maybe a week. It took about 2.5 weeks for my side effects to completely subside but I have been completely symptom free since then (I’ve been on it since September). I would ride it out for a few weeks—you’re taking it for a longer term solution, and looking back you’ll be glad you put up with less than a month of feeling cruddy!

Wondering what people’s experiences with Lexapro have been like? I was recently prescribed 10 mg and have taken it exactly one time right before bed - I was up ALL night and the next day my whole jaw and face hurt like the worst ecstasy hangover of my entire life (hello 1999!). I finally started to feel normal again after getting sleep the following night but it spooked me from taking it again. Has anyone experienced anything similar? Do I need to just tough it out for a while and then it will feel ok? Or is this totally unusual?
