Our library has a weekly music and story time for babies under a year. I'm planning on checking it out w/LO next week (she's 7 months old).

Our library has a monthly music/story time specifically for babies 0-23 months. I took LO at 4 months. While he was obviously too young to participate, he just liked watching all the other babies and listening to what was going on. It was very loud so I thought he'd hate it, but he liked it so I plan to take him again next month. He was one of the youngest babies there, but I would still recccomend it. It gets you both out of the house and you can meet some other parents.

Our "lapsit" story time is aimed at 6-18 months I think and the librarian always jokes that none actually sit in laps long. We start with 2-3 short songs, do a couple of nursery rhymes using the felt board or other props, she reads a picture book and then another book that goes with a song and then they dump out a huge bin of soft blocks and balls (they all get cleaned after each session.) The whole thing takes 30 minutes, 10-15 of it is the play time at the end.

Long story short, even the littlest babies can get a kick out of it and let's face it, these events are just as much for you as them!

Definitely ask your library about the suggested age range.

We started the Mother Goose program with DD at 3 months. I actually met the core of my mommy friends at the library! We all had babies the same age, so we eventually all got to talking/sitting together and became friends. DD started getting really interactive by 6 months, and by 9 months she really started loving the Mother Goose program. If nothing else, it gives you something to do and some quality time together! At that age, it can be difficult to find stuff to do together.

I think it depends a lot on how the program is set up. Our "baby bookworms" program is a lot of stuff: a short book, nursery rhymes, instruments, bubbles, etc. There are definitely babies there, though I'm sure they're simply chilling/looking around rather than paying attention. Until LO is a bit older, it's probably more for you if you want to get out of the house -- but there's nothing wrong with that!

There was an infant story time, I think I took her when she was around 6 months. She's always been very social so she loved looking at the other babies.

Do they specify what age group the story time is for? My local library has a baby story time and toddler story time. Baby time is mostly based on play, songs, and nursery rhymes (they have accessories like shaky eggs and scarves for the parents and babies to play with together). Toddler time is more of a traditional story time.

DS didn't get much out of it until a year old, even then he would want to get up an explore. By 2 he became more interested.

If you go to your local library's story hour, how old was your LO when you started going? I have a 3.5 month old, and I wasn't sure if he would get much out of it now? He loves looking at board books at home, but I wasn't sure if story hour is meant more for older babies.
