I have heard that a lot of the OTC products no longer work. We have companies who do the removal for you, so personally I'd go straight there! Any sign of lice yet? Crossing my fingers she doesn't get it!

The place near ours does daycare checks too. Our daycare brought them in over the summer. $1/kid! Totally worth it. To be fair in the grand scheme it was $100 to do my daughter but I'll do it again in a heartbeat if we end up with lice.

@Autumnmama79: I didn't either and then I googled it in my panic and found one local. I called on a sat afternoon and they had someone meet us at their facility within two hours. Amazing thing to have available.

@MamaG: It's absolutely worth the money! We were done in less than two hours. Two full treatments and two additional checks. They then did a follow up check a week later and guaranteed their work for a month. I don't freak at the thought as bad now that I know a better solution is available!

@Crisark: 👍 We used a removal firm too. I tried first and failed. It was so worth the cost to take her somewhere that didn't use chemicals and in less than two hours she was done. They also checked me for a nominal fee.

Most lice now are resistant to the chemicals in the shampoos you buy at the drugstore. Get one with tea tree oil as a preventative. The only real way to get the lice is with a good metal nit comb. Buy a bottle of spray in detangler. Put brushes and hats and anything that might be contaminated in the freezer for two days.

I have three daughters so I've dealt with it. Three times in five years so far. Blah lol but I would recommend against treating with those chemicals before you confirm she has it.
The last time we dealt with it we found a removal company and they handled it with one treatment. Might be something to look into.
Just be diligent in checking.
Honestly it's most commonly spread via head to head. They can't live off of the scalp longer than 24hrs.

@BeachMama: I used this shampoo from Target: https://socozy.com/product/boo/lice-shampoo. My husband likes it and continues to use it. I also bought traditional store brand lice shampoo and another more natural brand (found at my Kroger, I don't know what you have). Also, make sure you get a metal nit comb. The plastic one does nothing.

Basically, I spent $60 on lice products. Also, you don't have to treat your furniture, just vacuum it a bunch. Oh! I used a coconut oil/Boo Shampoo mask on her hair and it seriously made it so easy to get the nits out. Like butter. They just slid off.

Hmmmm I don't know. We get a note sent home every few months from daycare saying someone in the room has lice. Neither girl (knock on wood!) has had it yet. My girls nap at daycare, so I think there's a greater opportunity to spread it there than it would be at a bouncy house place. I think I would wait it out and see, rather than going through all that trouble.

I agree with AutumnMama79. Go to the store and start lice treatment immediately. I hope your DD didn't get it, but it's best to act as if she does have it. I would go so far as to clean the house and wash everything her head may have had contact with.

I went through this a couple of months ago with my 2-year-old...it's awful!

We dealt with lice a couple years ago and it was HORRIFIC. If I were you, I'd go to the drugstore and get the treatment shampoo and do it preventatively.

Fingers crossed your DD didn't get it!!

We went to a birthday party on Saturday at a play gym - think climbing structure with slides, a bouncy house, toys, etc. I just found out from the mom of the birthday girl that she now has lice. She and DD never really had direct contact with each other but obviously were playing on all the same equipment. I didn't notice anything in DD's hair this morning, but I wasn't specifically looking for anything. What do you think the chances are that she got it too?? I'm obviously going to do a thorough check when I get home. Ugh, this is one parenting thing I've been dreading!
