@avivoca woo! You go mama. I am hoping this will inspire me to be more active and finally work off the last of the baby weight. Hiking is one of my favorite activities but my current baby carriers are not super conducive for it.

I've been hiking with my 1 year old in a Tula in a back carry and I feel great in it. FWIW.

I did a lot of hiking and long walks with H in our Ergo. It worked really well and was super comfortable. One of those hikes was definitely about three miles up and down hills (so not huge, but decently long for the small park we were in).

@justjules: I have hiked a few times with my LO in a front carry in the lillebaby. I have the complete all seasons. They are fairly flat hikes but really in the canyons, not paved trails, and it has gone well. LO is only 10 months so we haven't bothered learning baby carry yet.

ETA: we also have a chicco hiking backpack that we started using with my older LO after she turned 1 so we may switch to that when this LO is bigger.

@justjules: I was pretty happy it was only pee! If we hadn't been hiking with friends and other kiddos I probably would've rinsed my shirt in the lake. Other than the leaking, the ergo was pretty comfy for the hike. It wasn't a steep hike at all, just rocky and uneven. I hardly noticed him back there except for the, um, warm, damp feeling!

@cherrybee I hear so many good things about it! I will have to look at the trail closer. I don't think there is much incline. I am a bit worried if it's a super hot day though

Haven't tried that carrier but I just finished a 3ish mile hike using the ergo 360 (back carry) and while it worked fine, it was very hot and sticky for us both. Plus for some reason when back carrying T's diapers seem to leak up the front. So my back is sweaty and smells like pee! Lovely. I'll be looking into hiking backpacks now!

I LOVE my Lillebaby complete. I guess it depends what you mean by light hiking.... If you mean walking, then yes it will be great. I'm not sure Id attempt anything too high impact, though, because it does get quite hot and sticky.

@justjules: I've done it. We just spent a day on a long walk plus going up in a lighthouse--so not exactly light hiking, but similar. I have an airflow and it was fine.

If it's hot outside, you can get one of those cool cloth things that stay cold all day and put it down between you and baby.

We've hiked with one kid in the Ergo (back-carry) and the other in an Osprey. The worst part about hiking with something like the Ergo/lillebaby/etc is that there is no air-flow between you and the kid, so it gets hot and sweaty REALLY fast. Something like an Osprey or Kelty is nice because the frame sits baby up higher (they can see better) and keeps you separated so you are both cooler. It's do-able, just not as comfortable for either of you.

In general, I would say if you are doing anything more than very light/short, sporadic hikes, I'd look at getting something more specific for hiking.

I have loved babywearing so far, but want a carrier with the option of back carries. I'm looking at the lillebaby complete. Is it possible to do light hiking with it?
