@Mrsk: I don't have an answer but this is an interesting question! I totally get that there is variation from woman to woman but it is surprising that there is such a wide range of flows that are "normal". I think it it's probably one of those things that remains a mystery about women's bodies! We're just so mysterious ;)

@holisticmama: thanks for sharing! I have been seeing an accupuncturist and have been loving it!

Thanks everyone else for the input...I know many who have gotten pregnant with light periods, and I know that there are always difference between everyone,

but if you have a light period, do you not shed all your uterine lining? Do you shed some and some is absorbed back into your body, or every time do you shed the entire lining?

I just can't imagine that that is my total lining that comes out on one pantyliner....the rest of the lining, where does it go??

@Snowdrop: Well- it really depends on the individual.
http://www.chinesemedicineclinic.com/irregular_periods.html

I just always think it's interesting that a lot of the foods and herbs that are recommended- when you begin to research them- you find they align with western medicine, as well.

For example, I have kidney qi issues. My acupuncturist wants me to focus on dark beans, especially kidney beans (which happens to also looks like a kidney). And when you start digging- you realize that beans can also help increase estrogen.

My periods were once very heavy, and after birth control, they became super light. I've brought it up with both my midwife and RE, and neither seemed concerned. However, once we started measuring my uterine lining, it has often been too thin. Clomid was very bad for me, and it took some work to build it back up!

Good news is that people do get pregnant with a thin lining. And it's an easy thing to measure through an ultrasound and you can work to thicken it up.

@Mrsk: I also have light periods...I always have. They are only about 2 days long and I might go through 2 pads. I thought it was pretty wonderful until I really started thinking about trying to conceive.

Once I got a salvia hormone panel, I also discovered that my estrogen is low, which is responsible for thickening the lining of the uterine wall. So this cycle I did some seed cycling with chia seeds and sunflower seeds, which I think really helped (because I also have a skin condition that is estrogen-weak sensitive and it was SO much better this month). And if I have another cycle soon- I will try royal jelly.

I am also working with an acupuncturist. TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) has an interesting theory about "scanty" periods.

Really light periods was the reason my doctor sent me for early testing.

Like everything else about the female reproductive system, there are degrees of normal that vary quite widely from woman to woman.

Feel free to get a second opinion from another doctor for sure, but if you gyn says it isn't a problem I wouldn't worry about it. I have always heard that the lightness/heaviness of your period does not matter unless they are unusually heavy or light.

How long have you been TTC?

My thought would be if you have really light periods it would be due to not having a think uterine linning that cycle.... how would this play into getting KU??? You need a thicker linning for implantation to occur..... not a doctor but makes sense to me!

This may be a stupid question, but it's one I've been wondering for a while and I thought who better to ask than the Bees!

How is it that some people can have light AFs and some heavy? Mine are really really light now, they were always light but now more so than ever, like last period I used a panty liner one day and it wasn't soaked, the other 2 days I had a little bit of spotting in my panties.....and that was it!

So how can some people have heavy flow and some light? Does it mean that some people have thin lining and other think? In my googling it would appear that this is not the case...but then where does all the blood from the lining go for those that have really light periods? Is it absorbed somehow?

Please help me understand this mystery!

Ps. I asked my gynocologist about the light periods as we are just beginning to investigate why we are having trouble getting ku and she said as long as my periods are regular (and they are) and that I'm ovulating (and I am) that there is nothing to be concerned about.
