@hellobeeboston: hmm. I was thinking of getting track lighting. Is there enough light with those?

We rented a place that had this and I hated it! We removed, patched ceiling and added a track light. If the electrical is tricky, or needed, I would consider recessed lights, but they tend to run about $75-$100/a light when done by an electrician (at least in my experience).

Anyone have experience with doing this? We're buying a house that has one in the kitchen. It drops down and has wood around it that matches the cabinets. I forgot to take a picture of it and I can't remember if it's centered over the island or not. I'd love before and after pictures if anyone has them! I'm having a hard time picturing what it'd look like without the big box up there. Any suggestions as to what to put up there?
