@Mrs. Champagne: @KayKay: Thank you! It seems like we're all in a similar position. I'm reminding myself why we chose this place and in the end, it really is worth the sacrifices. More opportunities will pop-up for us all, surely

@lamariniere: It's definitely a problem. One of the reasons why this opportunity is so ideal is because it's in English. But even if I was more fluent in the local language, it's really difficult to find a position here. But surely something else will come up (at least that's what I'm telling myself) :silly:

@sugarplumsmom: ugh! That can be so frustrating! I ended up leaving my original job because I travelled 80%. Once I didn't want to travel anymore (TTC and then after having LO1), there were no local opportunities with my company so I would've been relegated to, at best, average performance reviews for my level. It didn't seem worth it. We couldn't move bc DH was completing medical training. I both wanted to and needed to ($$) work, and ended up taking a job that was not challenging but did have great benefits. I just tried to look on the bright side as much as I could, and kept my eyes open for new opportunities that might come along (rarely...). Good luck!

This is kind of my situation, and mostly because of the language barrier. Luckily, I'm self-employed so I don't have to worry about it. But if I wanted to get an office job, it would be extremely tough. Do you speak enough of the local language to work? Or maybe that's not a problem where you are.

We moved to a really small town 6 years ago for my husbands job. His job is amazing so we couldn't turn it down, and he's been promoted a lot since. Basically everyone that lives here has one family member working where he works.

It was really hard for me to find a decent job. It took a year and I found something semi related to what I went to school for. (B comm major in marketing)

After having my son though I stayed home. Had we stayed where we lived before I would have been able to make more. But DH maybe not as much as he does now. And houses are wayyyyy more expensive. So really this is the best option for us.

ETA: I plan to go back to work when my kids are in school but have no idea what I'll do.

Anyone else have limited career prospects because you've settled down at a specific location and don't want to move? I was referred to a pretty great paying position with high income potential and fabulous career opportunity, but I can't apply because it would require me to move and I don't want to be away nor do I want us to relocate. It's a closed position and I'd have pretty good referrals, which would give me a real fighting chance to get it. But alas ...

Anyone else having to turn down great opportunities due to location? Let's commiserate!
