Thanks everyone. I ended up taking her to the Banfield (PetSmart clinic) since they were open on Sunday and had a coupon for a free new patient visit. They ended up wanting to do an xray and give her a shot of painkillers, so it ended up being $400 ($350 with the coupon). Fortunately, they didn't see anything broken on the x-ray, though they said there are a lot of little bones in a dog's "wrist" and it's possible they just aren't seeing it.

The gave us anti-inflammatory meds to give her daily and we are keeping her in LO's play coral all week except for bathroom trips, so that she can't re-injure it. They are going to reevaluate her next week.

My two goldens have both had this - for one, as a puppy, it resolved quickly (after a day or two) so no vet visit. For the other, it was an infection between the paw pads from a burr or a cut that we had to get antibiotics for. Did you check between the pads for any redness, discharge, etc? My vet said that's a pretty common reason for limping that goes away and returns.

:( this happened when my dog got Lyme. We pulled an engorged tick off her and a week later she was limping. 30 days of antibiotics got it out of her system.

I would take him in as they will probably want to do x-rays. Our Lab did this and it was a torn ligament that actually healed on it's own.

This happened to my cat once! She was limping then it seemed to be getting better so she was probably more active and rehurt it. We did take her to the vet then who said she had a sprained elbow. They said to not let her jump etc and it did resolve a few days later. I think they gave us anti-inflammatory meds for a few days too- they just did an exam, no X-rays if I recall correctly

Our dog would get sporadic limp paws and it ended up being lymes disease.

@78h2o: I think the base pay for just bringing our dog in to the e-vet was around or over $100 so I'm sure you'd hit $200 quickly. I think she will be fine waiting until tomorrow but I would definitely take her in.

Our dog had similar symptoms once and the vet couldn't find anything wrong structurally or find an injury. He was diagnosed with sciatica (which they'd actually never seen a dog with before lol) and we had to keep him inactive and give him anti-inflammatory drugs. Once he rested it, he was good as new! It might not be the same thing for your sweet pup but hopefully it's something that won't require pricey treatment. We were thinking the worst for our guy and that was the reason we finally got pet insurance.

@78h2o: That's true! I don't have pet insurance so I've never thought about it that way. I'm sure you'll end up over $200, whether it's at the regular vet or the e-vet! It's never cheap. I really should look into insurance... it would be nice knowing I only need to cover the deductible.

ETA: Just saw the picture - sooo sweet! What a pretty dog.

@Synchronicity: I think you are right. I wonder how much it is going to cost if they do x-rays? Because if it is going to be over $200, I might as well just take her to the e-vet, since our insurance will cover the rest.

Since it's been a while and doesn't seem better yet, I'd take her in as soon as you can. If it means avoiding the e-vet, I might wait until Monday (and just keep her contained/quiet today), but I don't think I'd wait any longer than that. Dogs are very good at hiding their pain!

My dog did something to her left leg or paw on Tuesday. She wouldn't put any weight on it, but otherwise was acting normally. My husband wanted to wait 24 hrs before taking her to the vet. Wednesday and Thursday she seemed back to normal, walking on all fours, so I didn't take her. We tried to keep her off of it, but did let her walk around the house (i.e., did not keep her crated at all times). I think she reinjured it again Friday morning, as she wouldn't walk on it at all on Friday or Saturday. My husband saw her walk on it this morning, but then she went down the stairs before we could stop her and stopped putting weight on it again. She doesn't seem like she is in pain today... it did seem like she was really hurting on Friday, but yesterday and today she is eating and seems fine.

I can take her to the vet on Tuesday, possibly Monday without missing work... but if she needs to go asap, I can take her to the emergency vet. We have pet insurance, but a $200 deductible.

Anyone have experience with this? Or any vets around? WWYD? I tried calling her vet on Tuesday, but they wouldn't give me any advice over the phone, just told me to bring her in.
