My old company was super cheap and this is how they would recruit. Our internal recruiters would "email" people on LinkedIn and see if they were interested. But they were legit offers.

@babyjmama: DH regularly gets contacts via Linkedin and they've all been 100% legitimate; I would say respond for sure. Never hurts to hear an offer.

It's usually legit, especially if it's from someone at the actual company. Headhunters can be a little sketchy though, sometimes they make up stories about having open positions, then once they get your resume the position "poof!" disappears.

All of the ones I've received have been legit. DH gets offers all of the time (tech industry) and I don't think any have been spam.

All of the offers Ive been messaged about directly were legit. I do not add requests to network with people I dont know though. Im in the industry and have found that most ppl are seriously seeking out candidates. Respond! !! :goodluck:

@Mrs. High Heels: @night cheese: this is a local company that I know of so at least it's not something that I would be too freaked out by. I guess we will see, I'm still a little hesitant but will entertain his idea!

I hear from several recruiters a week on LinkedIn (I'm in an industry with very rapid growth). I wouldn't say that they're all spam per se, but I would say that 99% of them are completely irrelevant. Lots of crappy or lazy recruiters use LinkedIn in a spray-and-pray manner, like if they reach out to a thousand people, maybe a handful will be interested, qualified, and a general good fit.

Most of the recruiting messages I get are for jobs that I'm over- or under-qualified for, and the rest are for jobs across the country when I have no interest in moving.

@babyjmama: Yes, I would... especially if the offer sounded appealing! I usually don't respond and ignore if I have no interest.

Depends on whom it's from. A real deal head Hunter our recruiter, then yes. Those are the only ones I've gotten emails from on linked in. I usually can tell if it's real by looking at the sender's linked in profile.

Not to say they are all legit, but I have gotten legit offers. Usually they aren't straight up job offers but more like "Hey I am a recruiter for company XYZ. I have a position that closely matches your experience."

Tech companies in particular are really using LinkedIn as a recruitment tool for passive candidates.

Recruiting organizations are also mining LinkedIn to find candidates for their clients.

I've gotten contacted by both recruiters working for a company & contracted recruiters working for a client.

I wouldn't say spam, but some of the contacts might be recruiters essentially cold calling so that they have a larger pool of potential applicants/access to your network.

I typically won't accept any of the connections unless we have actually communicated about a specific role.

So I've gotten a few messages/emails from people on LinkedIn asking if I'm interested in positions at their company. Are these spam? I am always weary of stuff like this but don't want to ignore what could be a decent opportunity!

Tell me all!

(And yes, I work as a recruiter but I work at a small company that still lives in the dark ages and we don't use this!!)
