@hellobeeboston: I wax my eyebrows and upper lip area at the same time every 3 weeks or so (I have dark hair.) Nad's is my go to and a box costs about $5. They sell em everywhere like target and Walgreens. Very easy to use, just place the strip in between ur hands and rub a few times to heat. Then peel the strip apart (so you actually get two strips from one). Press on the area to be waxed, wait a few seconds then rip quickly like a bandaid and make sure you peel it as parallel to the skin surface as possible - don't lift up cause that'll cause tugging on the skin and doesn't rip the hairs as well. You'll have redness so I do it after showering in the evenings before bed. Once in a while the waxed skin gets raw and applying a thin layer of neosporin on the area prevents scabbing. The regrow is fairly slow and not stubbly at all like when you shave. My regrowth usu starts out with a couple hairs here and there which I tweeze as part of the upkeep between waxings.

@hellobeeboston: It's like tweezing in that it pulls the hair out but instead of one hair at a time they use the thread to pull a row of hairs at once. It's more precise and gentler on the skin than waxing. It's definitely uncomfortable but I don't find it as bad as waxing personally. I also typically have my eyebrows threaded. I just have incredibly sensitive skin so it is the best for me on my face.

@catgirl: is threading like tweezing? they use the threads and pull the hairs that way?

@hellobeeboston: I'm pretty pale, so when I wax my eyebrows or anything, it's red for about 12 hours after. I would pick a Friday night and do it in the evening before bed. It will be fine by morning, but if for some reason it's still red, it will definitely be fine by Monday.

I've been dealing with upper lip hair since I was 9 and I've tried it all - bleach, wax, trimming, threading. I vastly prefer threading to get rid of it, most places are pretty cheap and it only takes a few minutes. I break out and stay read for a week if I wax, trimming doesn't last long enough. I do bleach it and then trim if I don't have time to go get it threaded.

I did for years, but I would always break out for a couple days afterwards. I eventually decided that was even worse. Now I alternate between embracing myself as a bearded lady, plucking, and a cheap electric trimmer thing sort of like this: https://www.amazon.com/Panasonic-ES2113PC-Pivoting-Attachments-Battery-Operated/dp/B0009DT39C

After two kids my vanity is pretty much gone, haha.

@hellobeeboston: Might be a good idea to do it at night or on the weekend (I like to do it on a weekend just because I do better in natural light by the window, so dark weeknights won't work). You can cut down the chances of your skin reacting poorly by 1) using oil to remove excess wax 2) immediately washing your face with cleanser to get the oil off 3) oil-free moisturize like you normally would; this helps soothe the skin.

Oh and you might get more skin irritation (and pain) if you wax during your period.

Good luck!

OK, you all are talking me into doing it at home instead of going. First time was it very irritated, red? I should probably do at night instead of right before work, ha. or on the weekend.

I do my own eyebrow waxing (so much better than plucking IMO) and sometimes add on a quick strip on my upper lip if I feel like it. It's super easy. You don't get stubble, or at least I don't, since the hair is so fine and soft.

I used to get my eyebrows done at salons but it's so much easier to just learn how to do it at home. I looked up a YouTube tutorial the first time I did it, and then bought a few supplies (wax warmer with a tub of wax, little muslin strips, and a few wooden applicators). It's all purchasable on Amazon. That first tub of wax I bought years ago is still more than 3/4 full. I do it every 2-3 weeks.

I just like the more smooth and polished look with make up. I have blonde very fine hair there. So it is not terrible at all, but I feel you just get a smoother look with make up. So I do mine occasionally. I bought a wax warmer and wax on Amazon. Over time between doing my brows and lip its worth it to have your own. They really aren't that much.

@hellobeeboston: not itchy. Maybe I'm not observant, but I don't notice it until it gets to the "OMG WAX YOUR LIP" stage. But my hair is dark. It's not thicker either, except for a few of my chin hairs.

@hellobeeboston: Yeah, I use the Sally Hansen kit. I make it last awhile by cutting down the larger strips. I hate my chin hairs. They seem to be getting more numerous now that I'm in my 30s and have had two kids.

@avivoca: do you just buy wax at cvs or whatever?! i should probably do it myself, but was thinking the first time i should see how they do it professionally?

i have one long hair on my chin i need to pluck - IT'S SO GROSS.

It's not embarrassing. I've waxed it myself with the Sally wax strips. Easy peasy, not that painful. And I've also Nair'd before, which is not painful at all, as long as you remove in time.

Strangely, I seem to have less lip hair after having kids.

Do any of you wax your upper lip? Worth it? I've noticed after getting older, and having 2 babies - I'm feeling self-conscious about the hair on my upper lip... it's mostly very blond, but i occasionally bleach it as one spot starts to get a little darker.

I would ideally like to laser it - but it's so blond i'm not sure it would work....

If you wax, how often do you have to go? Does it get stubbly?! UGH...

I used to wax my brows but after doing it a few times it actually never grew back in... maybe i'll get lucky again?

This is embarrassing.
