@mrsjyw: Good to know!

I've often wondered if I should taste the breastmilk to see if it tastes soapy. I guess if she'll take it and I'm handling it correctly, it shouldn't matter though!

Yep, from what I've researched, KellyMom and etc, if you stored correctly and your LO takes it-- there's no harm in taking milk with excess lipase.

A few mothers find that their refrigerated or frozen milk begins to smell or taste soapy, even though all storage guidelines have been followed closely. Per Lawrence & Lawrence (p. 781), the speculation is that these mothers have an excess of the enzyme lipase in their milk, which begins to break down the milk fat soon after the milk is expressed. Most babies do not mind a mild change in taste, and the milk is not harmful, but the stronger the taste the more likely that baby will reject it.

Is it safe for LO to drink breast milk when it might have lipase issues? LO has been drinking all refrigerated and frozen BM fine. Today I tasted some defrosted milk and it had a soapy taste.

I'd like to give fresh breast milk but I might not have much of an option when I start work. Any thoughts? Thanks.
